🏆 What a weekend at the Peak Challenge! 🛶🔥

Kingston took a small team this year, with Isaac Wilson and Sebastian Coultas racing across White Water Racing, Canoe Slalom and Kayak Cross, supported by coaches Andy Davies and Dave Rawding, who also provided safety cover throughout the weekend.

For Isaac, this was his first ever competition weekend in any paddlesport discipline — and what a start! 👏

🌊 White Water Racing: Isaac finished 4th out of 14 in J12, missing 3rd by just ONE SECOND! Sebastian also had a brilliant run, finishing joint 7th and adding valuable points to Kingston’s Club Trophy total.

🚩 Slalom: After a tricky first run, Isaac came back determined and successfully negotiated every gate on run two, finishing 9th out of 14.

🔥 Kayak Cross: Isaac placed 5th in the time trial before taking on his first ever head-to-head race — gaining loads of experience and showing some great fighting spirit.

A massive thank you to Paddle Peak and Peak Paddle Sports, especially Pete Astles, Paul Ramsdale, Andy “Snakey” Whiting and the full team, for a fantastic weekend.

Most importantly, two young paddlers tried new disciplines, learned loads and had a brilliant time.

Well done Isaac and Sebastian — you did Kingston proud! 💙🛶

🎉 HUGE congratulations to Olivia! 🎉

What an incredible 10 days of racing at Grandtully in Scotland on her first visit to the course!

Olivia came away with three Division 2 wins and a second place, producing some fantastic, competitive racing throughout. She was pushed hard by her friends and fellow competitors, but kept delivering strong performances — even mixing it successfully with much of the Division 2 K1M field! 💪🚣‍♀️

Her performances at the Division 1/2 event on the second weekend showed that she is more than ready for the next step…

🏆 Olivia has been PROMOTED TO DIVISION 1! 🏆

That means her next race at Abbey Rapids will be as a Division 1 paddler.

A brilliant achievement and thoroughly deserved. Everyone at Kingston Kayak Club is incredibly proud of you, Olivia — congratulations! 👏💙

🚨 TONIGHT’S SESSIONS CANCELLED – MONDAY 27 JULY 🚨

Unfortunately, all Kingston Kayak Club sessions scheduled for this evening have been cancelled due to a technical issue affecting the outdoor pool at Albert Avenue.

We have been advised that this is not expected to be a long-term problem, so we expect to be back as normal for our sessions on Monday 3 August.

Anyone who has already paid will receive a refund.

Please help us spread the word to anyone who may be planning to attend tonight.

We apologise for the short notice and any inconvenience caused.

💙 Today is World Drowning Prevention Day 💙

At Kingston Kayak Club, we love getting people out on the water safely. Whether you’re paddling a kayak, canoe, SUP or simply enjoying time by the river or coast, taking a few moments to think about water safety could save a life.

🌊 Remember:
✅ Wear a correctly fitted buoyancy aid.
✅ Check the weather and water conditions before you head out.
✅ Never paddle alone if you can avoid it.
✅ Tell someone where you’re going and when you expect to return.
✅ Carry the right safety equipment for your trip.

If the unexpected happens and you find yourself struggling in the water:

🩵 Float to Live
• Tilt your head back with your ears submerged.
• Relax and control your breathing.
• Move your hands and legs gently to help you stay afloat.
• Once your breathing is under control, call for help or swim to safety.

Every drowning is preventable. By learning simple lifesaving skills and making good decisions around water, we can all help make paddling—and every day around water—safer.

Stay safe, look after each other, and enjoy the water responsibly.

We have partnered with Kingston Kayak Club to deliver a water safety initiative aimed at educating children, young people and adults about the dangers of open water and how to stay safe, completely free of charge.

An interactive classroom session before moving to a practical session in the safe and clean waters of the Lido. 🏊

Community Water Safety – Our First Session

We recently delivered the first Community Water Safety session in partnership with Hull Culture and Leisure (HCAL).

Several of those attending shared stories of times when they, their friends or family members had got into difficulty around open water. Those experiences had prompted them to join the free course and learn more about how to stay safe, recognise danger and respond if something goes wrong.

The session covered some simple but potentially life-saving messages, including:

Float to survive.
Shout, reach or throw — never go.
Call 999 and give a clear location.
Keep yourself safe so you do not become another casualty.

The participants took away a great deal from the session, and so did we. Their questions, experiences and feedback have helped us understand how we can continue to improve the course and make future sessions even more practical, memorable and impactful.

A huge thank you to our coaches for leading the course, and to Sam and Rupert for doing such a convincing job as our casualties during the practical exercises.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who attended. We hope you left feeling more confident and that the key messages stay with you.
