Following my cancer diagnosis in 2016, my priorities changed almost overnight. Family and friends came first and I shifted my focus to my physical health & mental wellbeing, learning also to appreciate the little, yet important, things in life. Having worked in the fitness industry for 13 years, I always had a healthy lifestyle, exercising most days and enjoying nutritious meals, but I also had a
huge amount of stress in my life. I worked long hours in a job that I loved, cared for our autistic son, and only slept for about 5 hours a night. While people have always been important to me, I never really carved out enough time in my schedule for me. Having just undergone a mastectomy, reconstructive surgery and 6 rounds of chemotherapy, I saw the effect that regular exercise had on my treatment side-effect, recovery and wellbeing. My ah-ha moment came when I realised that there was really no one in my local area or indeed online that was suitably qualified to help me recover from the devastating effects that the cancer treatment had on my body. Using my fitness background and applying the learnings from my own journey, I decided to create a service to help individuals with chronic health conditions or a cancer diagnosis. As a level 4 GP Referral Exercise Specialist, I am qualified to work with 13 chronic conditions including Diabetes, Obesity, Hypertension, COPD, Stress, Anxiety, Osteoporosis and Joint replacement, and feel very privileged to be able to support others through their own journey; which for some, can be a very daunting prospect.
