Some people claim that Jeet Kune Do is an 'incomplete' art. They clearly haven't read Bruce Lee's notes, that are published in one of the main books on the art, Tao of Jeet Kune Do.
That said, in todays world you need to adapt and grappling/submissions are not a good idea in a street fight situation.
You lose situational awareness, you can't see if someone has a concealed weapon, and if there is someone else wanting to get in on the action.
So, stay on your feet so you can make an escape asap, and train to defend against takedowns and how to get back up if you do find yourself down.
