Abbrook Pond has been an Association water for over 40 years with countless anglers having learnt their fishing skills on this old disused clay pit. For the carp angler interested in carp angling history; angling legends such as Dick Walker and Jack Hilton were regular visitors to this water in the early 60’s, well before carping became popular. Rumour has it they were actually catching carp to 10
lbs – on boiled potatoes!..........in the 60’s this was good carping. Covering just over 1½ acres in size, this pretty lily fringed pond is well maintained by local Bailiff Paul. There are rustic bridges providing access to all areas, with depths ranging from around 2’ in the back water to 10’ in the front. All species are stocked such as roach, bream, perch, pike and crucian’s etc. It is however, in the main fished for the beautifully conditioned tench and carp, with the latter going to the low 20’s. Multiple catches are possible for the experienced angler, with tench taking the established favourites such as bread, sweetcorn and maggot, whereas carp can be caught on quality boilies. Abbrook is an excellent fishery for new and established anglers alike, whilst the fishing could not be classed as ultra difficult, it is though a good, all-round water in which to gain experience and learn the all important watercraft. Finally, Abbrook pond has the added bonus of being set in a pretty environment; this in turn makes it the favourite haunt of local anglers. Despite the attractiveness of the water, there has, unfortunately, been occasions where anglers have been caught abusing it by leaving litter and cutting down trees etc; this has resulted in a few anglers being banned. Therefore, all anglers are asked to ensure other anglers treat this pretty pond with the respect it deserves thereby ensuring it is a pleasing place for all to fish.
