PARKHOUSE PAIRS 2026

The Knackered Chair divisional fixtures have now been completed with an unbeaten Owls team of Jim McIvor, Mark Morley and Pawel Jurasczcyk finishing at the top. Joining them in the semi-final from this division will be NA Raptors, Keith Haslam and Martin Dilkes. The Raptors, who completed their fixtures last week, had to rely on NA Teens slipping up in their final encounter against the Merlins. An inspired performance from the Merlins’ Lee Raymond and Derek Stratton defeated the Teens 3-2 and put the Raptors through to finals night, just one point ahead of the NA Teens.

The Wobbly Table division concludes next week. B.Boyz & Double D have already sealed their place as winners of the division, Mitch and Blake Bellham with David Davies have secured 7 wins from 7 and lead the field by 9 points. The runners-up are still to be decided in what will be an exciting final week of fixtures in the Wobbly Table Division. Wils Squared, Rob Williams with Quillan & Remy Wilson, currently sit in second place on 23 points and require a big win in their final match to ensure the runners-up place. The Sharks, Issy Brown & Henry Carter, with two to play next week could get to 28 points as well but they have to play the unbeaten runaway leaders as one of their matches. The Falcons and Ospreys are also in the mix if Wils Squared and the Sharks drop points. There are no easy matches for the contenders for that runners-up spot as they are all playing each other! Sharks v B.Boyz & Double D, Ospreys v Wils Squared and Sharks v Falcons.

The Fifth PARKHOUSE Pairs competition will reach its conclusion on Friday 26th June. Many thanks to Fred Wakefield from PARKHOUSE furniture restoration for again sponsoring this competition.

PARKHOUSE PAIRS 2026

Heading towards the end of the divisional fixtures we already have a winner in the Knackered Chair Division and a clear favourite in the Wobbly Table Division, but still lots to play for as several teams scramble for the runners-up positions.

Knackered Chair Division.
With just one week to go in the Knackered Chair Division the Owls have completed their fixtures and are already guaranteed the top spot with 7 wins out of 7, amassing 29 points. Jim McIvor, Mark Morley and Pawel Juraszczyk, despite having to frequently start matches 0-8 down, digging deep and picking up their victories. Currently in the runners-up spot are the Raptors, Keith Haslam and Martin Dilkes, have also completed their campaign ending up with 26 points. They could be caught by NA Teens (Albie Andrews and James Kitchen) who have a game to play and currently sit 3 points behind the Raptors.
While the other 5 teams cannot get into the knockout rounds there will still be positions to play for in the final week. 3 teams sit on 12 points, TA, NA FaTs and the Merlins. Valuable competitive experience has been gained by several folk who enjoyed the opportunity to take on much better players.

Wobbly Table Division.
With an extra team in this division we still have a couple of weeks to play.
Leading the pack and unbeaten are the B.Boyz & Double D who have 27 points and have played a game less than the Falcons (Louis Wilshire, Soame Banerji, Wilf Adams and Graham Copp) in 2nd on 20pts and Ospreys (Rob Ferguson, Ken Ramsden & Leo McTear) in third on 19pts. The B.Boyz, Mitch and Blake Bellham with David Davies, have only dropped 3 sets and can clinch the title next week with another win. The Sharks’ team, Issy Brown and Henry Carter, and Wils Squared, Rob Williams, Quillan and Remy Wilson, are still very much in the picture for the runners-up spot, sitting in 4th and 5th just a point or two behind with games in hand over the Falcons and Ospreys. Some big games ahead for the top 5!
In a very competitive division even those towards the bottom of the table have had their moments and enjoyed the opportunity to play many different folk who play at a higher level than themselves.

The semi-finals and finals are scheduled to take place on Friday 26th June.

PARKHOUSE Pairs 2026

Another excellent entry of 17 teams have been split into the Wobbly Table and Knackered Chair Divisions. The competition got underway last weekend, with Round Two completed yesterday.

The Wobbly Table Division has nine teams. The early leaders NA Falcons lost 3-2 in week one but a change of personnel led to a 5-0 victory last night to give the Falcons 7 points. Two 3-2 wins for the Mozzies has them in second place with 6 points. Wils squared, B Boyz DD and Ospreys have only played the one match but big wins for all three leave them hovering just behind the top two.

The Knackered Chair Division has eight teams, all teams having played at least twice, the Owls and Raptors have played three! That extra game for the Owls makes them clear leaders as they defeated Raptors 4-1 last night to inflict a first defeat on the Raptors and open up a four point lead at the top of the table. Two fine wins from NA Teens puts them level with NA Raptors on 9 points. TA with two wins in their opening two matches sit in fourth on 7 points.

Finals and Awards Night - Stover School, Tuesday 21st April.

Newton Abbot TTC were well represented in the table tennis finals held back from Sunday’s tournament to feature in the Leagues’ showpiece event at Stover School with participants in all but one final.
NA Eagles’ Paul Davey picked up the Veterans cup in an exciting 5 setter against Christopher Harper, Paul recovering from 2-1 down to lift the cup, winning 11-9, 9-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7.
The NA Buzzards’ pair, Sonja Ryland and Kevin Nichols, retained the mixed doubles cup beating Issy Brown and Christopher Harper 12-10, 11-8, 11-7.
Next up was NA Harriers’ Albie Andrews in the Junior Boys event who defeated Gustaw Adamczak in a brilliant encounter, arguably the best match of the evening. Albie winning 7-11, 11-4, 11-7, 7-11, 12-10.
The Newton Abbot pairing of Kevin Nicholls and Paul Davey lost out to the current holders of the men’s doubles title Aarish Maharjan and Christopher Harper 4-11, 7-11, 9-11.
The ladies’ singles final featured NA Eagles’ Sarah O’Leary in her first South Devon tournament and she played really well to defeat Issy Brown 12-14, 11-5, 11-9, 11-4.
Prior to the final event Albie Andrews collected the prestigious Alan Parker Cup. Albie was selected by the league committee who recognised the young man’s fine temperament and his impressive rise up the rankings.
Back to the table and in the Burton Cup men’s singles event Kevin Nicholls and Aarish Maharjan would again contest the final. It was Aarish this time who triumphed despite some amazing defence from Kevin in an entertaining finale to the evening. 11-7, 11-8, 2-11, 11-4.
A great evening of table tennis enjoyed by all to round off an excellent local league season.

South Devon and Torbay Table Tennis League - sponsored by Albany Florists

Not a great week results wise but still a fine finish to this season‘s local campaign.

On Tuesday night Torbay Academy 5 were too strong for our Falcons in the first semi-final of the singles handicap cup. Mike Dummett, Louis Wilshire and Leo McTear battled away in vein as the strong hitting youngsters from the Academy prevailed 25-11. Many thanks to Leo for again stepping in literally at the last minute to ensure we could play the match.

The result wasn’t much better for our club tonight in the second semi-final of the singles handicap cup as Teignmouth Delinquents defeated our NA Owls 24-12. It was a great effort by our Owls to make it to the semis as they regularly gave away 6, 7, & 8 point starts. Pawel Juraszczyk, Mark Morley and, stepping in to help out, Richard Hathaway all fought well but the handicaps proved too much this time.

Finally, a fitting end to the third division season as the top two sides battled for the title. Our Harriers knew that a win would be good enough to take the title but against a very strong Torre Spartans outfit it was always going to be difficult. The Harriers started well, winning the first two sets but they then lost the next six! However they recovered to win the final two sets which did at least ensure the runners-up spot. An excellent season from the Harriers who suffered a set back with Lee Raymond being taken ill with four matches still to play. Ken Ramsden has stepped up and done a brilliant job filling in for Lee to help out skipper Ivor Copley and our brilliant youngster, Albie Andrews. Tonight Albie won two singles, Ivor got one and Albie and Ken won the doubles. It’s been great to see Lee back out supporting the lads the last couple of weeks and wish him all the best as he continues his rehabilitation and we hope to see him back on the table in a month or two.

While the league season has come to an end we do have the end of season closed tournament to look forward to at the Torbay Leisure Centre on Sunday 19th April, entry forms on the website or from Tony. Finals and awards night will follow on the Tuesday 21st April at Stover School, a great night to round off the league season.

And the fun doesn’t stop there as during May & June the popular PARKHOUSE Pairs competition will take place at Teign School on Friday nights. Let Tony know if you wish to be involved.
