Last Saturday, the Newton Brewers held our annual AGM, where we reflected upon the most remarkable season any of us have had the pleasure to take part in, and be involved with.

From the quality of our opposition, each hit, every out, and to the sheer hard work and determination of all Brewers this year (new and old!) we can look back on our club's tenth year as the best to date.

During the course of our AGM we handed out our end of season awards, massive congratulations to all of our winners!

Rookie of the Year: Simon Bowley
Comeback Player of the Year: Paul Insley
Spirit Award: Charlie Capener
Most Improved: Taylor Scott
Silver Slugger: Haydn Thomas
Golden Glove: Charlie Capener
MVP: Sam Reynolds

We also inducted both Chris Drew, and Sam Reynolds into the Brewers Hall of Fame!

Unfortunately the Brewers left Bristol yesterday without the SWWBL Division 4 title, after a hard fought battle against the Bristol Buccaneers.

Congratulations to the Bucs for winning both the game and title, their pitching and defensive efforts were enough to close down a high scoring Brewers side. Both teams enjoyed an inning of scoring the maximum 5 runs, the Brewers went into the final inning ahead by 2, but the Bucs clinched the 3 runs they needed to take the title. With this the Brewers season has come to a close, and we will look back on what has been one of, if not the greatest season this team has enjoyed to date. Thank you to all of our players who have made this season possible, and for anyone that has watched or supported the club in person and on our socials. Up the Brewers! 🍻

Today the Brewers make the trip up to Bristol for the SWWBL Division 4 final against the Bristol Buccaneers!

Having started the season away to Bristol, ending it away to Bristol is a poetic ending for the Brewers, and it is set to be an epic clash. First pitch is at 2pm, go Brewers! 🍻

Here are our MVP winners from last Sunday's game!

We couldn't decide on just one MVP award for the game so we have our first dual MVP winners! Chris led the line offensively for the Brewers, hitting an incredible four home runs for the side to keep the pressure on, and then defensively we had Nick pitch a complete 9 inning game which ultimately led to the Brewers securing the result. Congrats to both our winners!

Yesterday the Brewers travelled down to Plymouth for their playoff semi-final against the Outlaws, and we left with a win and qualification to the SWWBL finals!

Special mentions must be given to both Sam R. and Sam O. for both hitting a home run after they both hit their career firsts the week before, but the headlines were stolen by Chris Drew hitting a whopping four home runs for the Brewers! Defensively pitcher Nick Prowse threw a complete 9 inning game and was absolutely solid throughout, helping the Brewers to clinch the result. Massive thank you to the Plymouth Outlaws not just for yesterday's fixture but for every fixture we have had together over the course of the year! We wish them luck in their post season and look forward to the next time we meet. With qualification to the final we will be playing the Bristol Buccaneers this Sunday at Somerdale Pavilion!

Here are our final MVP awards of the regular season from last Sunday's games!

Game one saw Sam hit his first home run for the Brewers, after playing with the side for 8 years! Offensively he brought in 3 runs, and 4 RBI's. Defensively he played at second base all day long, earning a catch and a few throws to first base to earn the Brewers some important outs, so for his efforts he took the MVP award!

Game two saw Charlie deliver a 3 strikeout inning for the Brewers, arguably his greatest pitching performance to date! He helped to turn the game around through his hard work and determination, and some might even say that he is getting good at this! For his performance, Charlie took home the final MVP award of our regular season!

The Brewers have completed their South West and Wales League regular season, and here are our results from our final game!

Game one saw Cardiff drive in 3 runs in the first inning, the Brewers followed this up with 4 runs of their own, with a first career home run for Brewer Sam Oldfield! Haydn Thomas was next up to bat, and only went and hit his seventh home run of the year, making it back to back home runs for the Brewers! The top of the second inning saw the Brewers keep the Merlins to no runs, with the bottom of the inning seeing Sam Reynolds hit his first home run for the side, making it three home runs hit in only the bottom of the second! The Brewers extended their lead through great offense and defense, with Nick Prowse hitting a lead off home run in the bottom of the third, taking his tally to six home runs this season. The Brewers went into the open innings up 17-3, but the Cardiff outfit fought valiantly, earning a massive 11 runs to stage a late comeback. But the Brewers held out, taking the win in the end.

Game two saw the Brewers offence continue to be dominant, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of every inning. The Cardiff side were scoreless in the first but hit the maximum five runs in the second inning. The top of the third inning saw pitcher Charlie Capener face three batters, and he only went and struck out all three! A remarkable display which helped the Brewers to finish the game strongly and give the Brewers their second win of the day. With the two wins, the Brewers earn their qualification to the post season, and we shall be marching onto the semi finals to face off against our good friends the Plymouth Outlaws! We'd like to thank Cardiff for two incredible games, played with high spirits and fun. We look forward to meeting them again soon!

Here are our MVP awards from last Sunday's games!

Game one started off with a 3 RBI home run for Nick to get the Brewers off to the best start possible. Nick also pitched the complete game for the Brewers and for his efforts across the day he earned the game one MVP award.

Game two saw Chris with a lot of action at center field, making several catches and looking solid at the plate, as he has done week in, and week out for the Brewers all season, he takes home a deserved MVP award!
