It is with great regret that I’ve made the decision not to compete at the Two Bros or BPA events this weekend.
I’ve recently received some devastating news regarding one of my dearest friends. It came as a huge shock to me and to many others, and understandably it has put a lot of things into perspective.
This weekend was already going to be a challenge physically. Last weekend was a bit of a jaunt and competing again so soon was always going to require me to dig deep. But following the recent news, I know mentally my head just isn’t where it needs to be.
When I step on stage, I want to give it everything. I don’t want to turn up half-hearted, mentally drained or simply going through the motions. This sport demands a huge amount from you both physically and mentally, and right now I don’t feel I could give the stage the version of myself that I expect.
As things have worked out, I also have my boy this weekend and my missus now has the opportunity to be around too. So I feel the right decision is to take the weekend, spend some much-needed time with my family, recharge, get my headspace right and appreciate the things that really matter.
I’ve spoken with my coach and we both feel this is absolutely the right decision. Competing is hard enough on the mind and body at the best of times, let alone while trying to process a tragedy like this.
The plan is still to hopefully make PCA Wales on the 30th and Plymouth/Devon on the 5th of September, but for now I’ll be taking each day as it comes. No pressure and no forcing anything. When I step back on stage, I want to know I’m there because I’m ready to give it everything.
Sometimes there are things far bigger and more important than competing.
For now, it’s family, recovery, perspective and getting my head right.
Apologies ❤️
