Our volunteer crew was tasked on Boxing Day at 2018 to carry out a search in the Musselburgh area for a missing person. Along with multiple SAR assets including coastguard rescue teams, police, and the UK Coastguard helicopter, a comprehensive search of the area was carried out.

After a 2.5hour search in near freezing conditions, the person was located inland and the search was stood down.

Our team is on call 24/7 over the festive period.

Our volunteer crew was tasked to assist a female on Inchcolm Island who had slipped and suffered an ankle injury.

Following initial assessment, our crew picked up a Scottish Ambulance Service SORT paramedic and two South Queensferry Coastguard members from Aberdour to assist with evacuation. The casualty was prepared for evacuation and Historic Scotland personnel assisted with the transfer to the lifeboat. She was then taken to Aberdour harbour where an ambulance was waiting to take her to hospital.

This was a great example of teamwork between the organisations with a good outcome.

Special mention to Aberdour Boat Club which was holding its regatta and barbeque and offered refreshments to all SAR personnel on conclusion of the job.

Our team today included Mike Chalmers, Neil Chalmers, Mel McGarva, Scott Glen, Rob Douglas, Mike Milne, Blair Henderson, and Brian Crow.

🟧 NO INFLATABLES 🟧

Inflatables can be fun when used safety, but every summer they are one of the most common reasons our lifeboat crews and lifeguards are called to action.

Inflatables are so dangerous in the open sea. They are not designed for the beach, so it is easy to get swept out to sea.

We urge you to leave inflatables at inflatables at home and not bring them to the beach. But if you do, remember these safety tips:

🛟 Choose a lifeguarded beach
🛟 Use your inflatable close to the shore and between the red and yellow flags
🛟 Ensure children are supervised at all times
🛟 NEVER use inflatables in big waves or when the orange windsock is flying
