Arrow Angling

Arrow Angling, as you may know, went on the back burner for a while this year following our relocation to the other side of the country. Shortly after the move, my family and I were subject to a string of challenges that have been hard to deal with....but we're getting there. Time is a luxury we haven't been blessed with, with three young children and both me and my partner working full time to make ends meet. Today, I finally found the few hours I so desperately needed to get my first rod building attempt completed....and boy I'm chuffed! It's not perfect...in fact...the keen eyed rod builders out there would likely have a field day on it, but it's the first attempt. It has to be said, I was quite naïve going into the rod building game, thinking that I could knock em up and ship em out at a rate at which since, I have realised is far from achievable. That said, the next will no doubt take a lot less time as the skills slowly come.

Please, feel free to criticise as you see fit. I will take it and improve on the next.

We should all feel privileged to spend the time we do in places like this and treat them with the respect they deserve. It was a slow day today on the Lugg in Herefordshire. Very little fly life and just two rises from one fish all day (unfortunately not to my fly!). The blue/green tinge to the water following recent rain is becoming an all to common occurrence. We happened to bump into one of 300 citizen scientists at around lunchtime, testing the water. Phosphate levels way way over what they should be. I can't help but feel our rivers are dying in front of our eyes.

I have fished this beautiful little beat numerous times over the years and witnessed the decline first hand. Gone are the days of swarms of fly life, numerous rising fish and clear water. It's been a sad day of realisation of how truly catastrophic the situation is. Call me dramatic, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

The construction of the new Arrow Fly Rods workshop is well under way. Soon to become the place where our excellent value, customisable, high quality, UK made fly rods start their life. We were hoping to start making these available in the next week or two, but there have been a few delays thanks to our house move. Now aiming for 5th April.

Apologies for the lack of posts recently. We have moved!! Now calling Norfolk our home....a long way from the hustle and bustle of the Midlands and can't say we miss it! Had a few hours free to check out the local trout water, on Sunday. Great little water, stuffed full of small rainbows. I even let my daughter have a go! Great seeing the love for fishing grow. 😍🎣🎣👌

Calling all coarse come fly fishermen! Our local Men in Sheds group are looking to offer fishing as an activity for those who need something to keep them busy. They are looking for donations of old fishing gear (I would suggest coarse given most will be new to fishing). If anyone could spare a rod or reel for someone who will make good use of it, then please drop me a message. I'd collect if it was local and could cover postage costs if not.

Chuffed to bits for my good friend Chris on his new PB barbel of 13lb 10oz! It's the time of year we often shelve the fly rods and turn to the Warwickshire Avon for these beauties, although not had much chance myself.
