What is barebow archery? Barebow is a style of recurve bow archery where the archer shoots without aids such as sights, stabilisers, a clicker or other useful devices attached to their bow. Barebow archers use the long-established, traditional archery techniques to master the discipline of barebow archery. Barebow archery is becoming more and more popular as many archers from other archery disciplines turn to the sport and has its own competition category. Shooting well without sights, stabilisers, clickers and other aids attached to your bow gives one a great sense of achievement. Note: All our in-house competitions are for barebow but that doesn’t mean you have to shoot barebow or recurve to join Kilmarnock Barebow Archers. All archers are welcome to join with the exception of crossbow.

On top of members attending at Muirmill Equestrian Centre on Friday we had a team of 6 up at Bannockburn Bowmen Open St George, Albion & Windsors (Scottish Record Status) competition today

Team Burns both gained gold Medals πŸ… Craig competing at Windsor Masters level 60,50,40 yards with a score of 730 and young Thor competing in the gents U12 Windsor 30 which was 30, 20,10 yards with a score of 644

All 6 team members also gained the Bannockburn Spider badge for scoring above the threshold for their respective categories.

I'd say another very positive haul for 'the Squirells' as we continue putting our club on the Scottish circuit.

Well done Team KBA πŸ‘ πŸ‘

On Friday (15th August) some of the members of the club had the absolute pleasure of attending The Positive Equestrian Camp at Muirmill Equestrian Centre, hosted by the amazing Steff Singleton. On hand to provide professional coaching was one of the UK's top Team GB horseback Archers and British Horseback Archery Association coaches, Emily Massey from EJM Horseback Archery

Some of our members had the pleasure and the privilege of having a ground shoot lesson from Emily to do with all things horse bow including some really "funky" shooting positions 😊 "coming to an outdoor shoot near you soon" 🀣 I have to say, it really opened my eyes to the functionality of a horse bow and how versatile it is for shooting. Arrow of the day has to go to our very own Mary Kusin who scored and absolutely awe inspiring 10X and you could not have got the arrow any more central in the target 🌟πŸ₯‡πŸ†

On Friday evening we got to see a demonstration on horseback archery from Steff and Emily on the different target directions, and stances required to shoot... while standing up on your horse; front shot, side shot, back shot. The different horse speeds, walk, trot and canter and see just how quickly a target can wwhhhiiizzz by before you even nock your arrow 🫣 included in the demonstration was some methods to carry your arrows I.e traditional quiver, back quiver or if you look rrreeaalllyyy closely at one of the pictures Emily is holding 10 arrows, already loaded and prepared for shooting... in her bow hand, whilst still able to hold her bow and shoot (Edward scissorhands doesn't get a look in)

Absolutely amazing day, great opportunity to meet the other riders who were participating in the full weekend horseback archery and Working equitation Camp and to be able to witness just how much fun Horseback archery is thanks to Steff and Emily for a great day.
