It’s going to take longer than you think

One thing that a lot of people when starting the gym don’t realise is how long it’s actually going to take to drop body fat or gain muscle

Because of social media we have this warped expectations of how long it’s going to take

You may think that you can lose weight or gain muscle really fast but if you could then every diet you done previously would of been successful and anytime you went to the gym you would of gained the muscle you want

The process and the actions required to lose weight or gain muscle is simple

But doing it consistently for a long enough period is the hard part and where the real results come

If you have found that you do well for a couple of weeks but never seem to get to the end results then maybe it’s time you reach out and ask for help

Don’t make the same mistake as I did when I first started the gym Get structure and if you need help with that 🙋🏼‍♂️

Really exposing myself here 😅😅

I’ve always struggled with fitness and being in shape. When I was younger, I was quite overweight, My mate who was two years older lets you see the comparison

When I was 17-18ish, I was still quite overweight and out drinking a lot. I went to the gym but didn’t stick to anything

Around 18-19, I decided to change my lifestyle. I started going to the gym more consistently and wanted to learn more about training

I then signed up for Tough mudder, I trained hard but was annoyed when I saw people skipping exercises and walking but saying they done it

I then signed up for an 8-week transformation programme. I dieted to my lowest weight, 84kg, and saw abs for the first time in my life. But I developed an unhealthy relationship with food after sticking to a low-calorie meal plan for 8 weeks and not missing a beat (Eating rice cakes peanut butter and a bounty on top daily)

After losing the weight, I realised I didn’t have as much muscle as I thought. I felt I had muscle, but it was just fat covering my frame. I also felt I had no shoulders (insert my love for lateral raises)

I continued learning and trying to build muscle. When I decided to sign up for a photoshoot with a coach, I wanted to see how much muscle I had actually put on.

My fitness goals changed when I got bored with my usual training. I switched to a hybrid style and feel and look my best. I’m training for my first solo Hyrox in a week. 💪🏻💪🏻

This post is to share my journey and story, but also to show how your fitness journey will change. What you once did might not be what you always do, and that’s okay. At each stage, it’s important to learn and progress to be healthier, happier, fitter, and stronger.

Stop looking for quick fixes

Stop thinking it’s job and done

To get in shape or reach your goal it’s probably going to take longer than you think

What happens if the goal you set isn’t actually the goal

What happens if you achieve the goal, do you just quit the gym and expect to maintain that?

Being healthier and stronger is something you will have to keep working for the rest of your life

The whole process doesn’t look the same though

Getting there is always harder than maintaining but if you struggle to get there then transitioning into maintaining might also be a hard

Also what if the goals change, then what?

Accept that being Healthier, Happier, Fitter and Stronger is something you will always have to work on
