Kilmarnock District Model Railway Club

Kilmarnock District Model Railway Club Model railway club Kilmarnock & District MRC is the oldest surviving Club in Ayrshire. It was founded in 1971 and had a small exhibit at Model Rail '72.

The original premises were in the Drill Hall, Titchfield Street in Kilmarnock : the club had to move to Riccarton Community Centre and then Kilmarnock Station. In the mid-1990's a decision was taken to buy and refurbish a derelict bakery in Kilmarnock over a ten year period . This would leave the Club as owners of their Clubrooms - a good position to be in ! That project has now been successfully

completed ! From the start Layouts were constructed in 'OO' gauge moving on to both 'N' and '009'; at present the Club has one 'O' gauge, two 'OO' layouts and two 'N' gauge layouts on the circuit. We also have a new 'OO' at the planning stage and an '0' gauge being worked on. The Club has had success in exhibitions, winning two cups at Model Rail 1990 in Glasgow and the most entertaining layout in show at Spennymoor in 1996. In addition we have picked up commendations at other shows. Kilmarnock & District MRC runs its own Exhibition in January each year, at the Volunteer Rooms in Irvine, having moved from Saltcoats in 2009. They also have standing arrangements to show at Auchinharvie and Dundee. We have also shown in recent years at Ayr, Falkirk and Bonnybridge.

Hi folks, hope you are all well.

After the loss of our annual exhibition this year, due to the storm, we are glad to announce details of our 2026 show.

We will be at the Scottish Maritime Museum, Harbourside, Irvine on Saturday 24th January 10am – 5pm and Sunday 25th January 10am – 4pm, for a fun weekend for all the family.

Plans are now underway to confirm all the exhibitors, traders and societies for the show.

We know it is still a long way off but save the date in your calendar and like and follow us on Facebook to stay up to date with developments.

We will also have updates about the ongoing work and projects at the club and details of upcoming shows and events that we will be attending.

Love this !

This is a busy weekend for the club with two teams at different shows, one in the east and one in the west. A small band are exhibiting at the Dundee Model Railway Exhibition and the others will be at Johnstone Model Railway Exhibition. Unusual for us to have to split this way and hopefully it won’t happen again, but all systems are go for the weekend so hoping to see some old and new faces at both venues.
