SAUNA NOTICE: The Two-Towel Rule
Please use 2 towels when visiting the sauna: 1 to sit on, and 1 to dry yourself with. Because, quite frankly, nobody wants to sit in someone else’s sweat. And we’re pretty sure you don’t want the next person sitting in yours either!
There is some actual sauna science behind this: 👇
Bacteria loves warm wood: When sweat soaks directly into the wooden benches, the heat creates the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive. Over time, this causes the wood to discolour and smell. Nobody wants their relaxing sauna experience smelling like an old gym bag. 🤢
Your towel is the barrier: Placing a towel under your bum catches the sweat before it ever has a chance to soak deep into the wood.
"But isn't that what cleaning is for?"
Absolutely! Our team clean the area every single day. To make sure we never miss a spot, we are adjusting our deep-clean schedule. From Sunday 20 September onwards, the Health Suite will open at 10:00 AM every Sunday. (Monday to Saturday remains closed until 9:00 AM for cleaning).
Daily cleaning keeps the surface fresh, but it can't stop sweat from sinking deep into the timber over time. Using a towel protects the wood long-term, keeping it hygienic and smelling exactly as a sauna should.
If you’re one of our regulars, think of it this way: it’s your space too. You want it looking, feeling, and smelling just as good on visit number 50 as it did on visit number 1.
So please remember the golden rules:
1. Towel One: Under your bum.
2. Towel Two: To dry off.
Your fellow sauna-goers—and our benches—will thank you!
