Killearn 10k 2026🏃‍♀️🏅

Perfect conditions for today’s race. Overcast, threatening to rain, but it held off.🙏

My little Mia was running the Killearn Mile👏 so I chummed her as a warmup to the main event.

I actually enjoyed the race today!😲🤣
Chip time 46:28, 4th V40, 6th lady overall.🎉
Very happy with that!🥳

This might be the first 10k ever where I truly felt strong the whole way through the race! Usually I’m hanging on for dear life in miles 4-6 but not today.😅

I really needed this to put to bed the demons from last year’s (very wet!) Killearn 10k which was a bad run for me. Managed to take 1:37 off today, which felt amazing!

Congratulations to everyone who ran today, and to the amazing Killearn 10k committee for putting on such a great event as always.👏👏

And on to the next! I’ll be lining up at the inaugural Aberdeen half marathon on 18th July. Let’s go!🔥

The biggest mistake I see women make?
Waiting.

Waiting until after the holiday.

I took this selfie right after a workout yesterday. Strength training makes me feel so powerful and confident, like I could actually take on ANYTHING… and I think that comes across in the photo. It’s a feeling like no other and I just have to shout about it!🗣️

So how did I get here? Let’s get into it.👇

1. I started strength training from home at 40. I understood that muscle is the fountain of youth and made it my goal to hang on to mine and even build some.

2. I stopped skipping meals and started eating for my goals. Building muscle means eating at maintenance calories (or slightly above). I aim for 120g protein daily, with quality carbs and heart-healthy fats at each meal.

3. I made quality sleep my top priority. Having teenagers makes it hard to be in bed by 9pm, so I don’t get up early to work out. I prioritise 7-8 hours sleep over everything else, including exercise.

4. I got a dog and started walking every day, even on running days. It’s essential for my nervous system regulation and stress management.

5. I kept running because it brings me JOY. It’s my number one mental health hack, keeps my heart healthy and helps me stay fit, athletic and strong. Find a form of cardio you love and stick with it.

6. I cut right back on alcohol. Now I only drink 3-5 times a year (and usually just 1-2 drinks). I sleep like a baby and feel amazing without it.

7. I got on HRT as soon as my sleep started to suffer and the hot flashes ramped up. My sleep improved almost from the first night.

8. I started taking Magnesium Glycinate 30-60 minutes before bed, another game-changer for my sleep quality.

9. I got more consistent with mobility and flexibility work. I’ve practised yoga regularly since I was 40 and became a licensed CIRC Mobility instructor in 2023.

10. I started taking creatine and noticed better workout recovery and less brain fog. Creatine supports muscle building, recovery and cognitive function.
