MATCH REPORT | DRUMSAGARD BLUES 2–4 KILBIRNIE LADESIDE GIRLS 2013s ⚽
A hard fought away victory for the girls today over at Newton Farm, coming away with a deserved 4-2 win against a good Drumsagard Blues side.
We started the game brightly, keeping possession for long periods and playing some lovely football. Our passing patterns were very pleasing on the eye and the girls looked confident from the first whistle.
Madison broke the deadlock, charging through the defence before showing great composure to calmly finish. Kiera then doubled our advantage, capitalising on a mix-up at the back, showing great determination to sneak the ball away and slot it home.
We went into halftime 2 goals to the good.
The message at halftime was to keep doing what we were doing, but we seemed to take our foot off the gas slightly. Credit to Drumsagard, who never gave up and really brought the game to us, playing some great football of their own.
Two well-worked goals brought the game level and suddenly the girls had to roll up their sleeves. It was a nervy spell, but we tightened things up all over the pitch and showed exactly what this team is made of.
Lily C gave everyone a huge sigh of relief with a brilliant free kick, curling the ball beautifully over the goalkeeper and into the top bin!
Defensively, the girls were tremendous. They had to deal with a big, strong striker who knew her way to goal, but Zoe, who was tasked with marking her, did an excellent job keeping her quiet, while the rest of the defence and midfield covered brilliantly to pick up the pieces.
With around 10 minutes remaining, Kiera got her second of the game. After working tirelessly all match trying to make things happen, she broke through and, with a cool head, calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to give us some breathing space.
Credit also to the referee, who correctly spotted two infringements that resulted in Drumsagard goals being disallowed—one for offside and one for a foul on our goalkeeper who bravely got her body in the way to stop a certain goal.
Overall a brilliant game of football between two teams who tried to play the game the right way. Both sides played some excellent passing football and, most importantly, showed fantastic sportsmanship throughout, picking each other up after little knocks and fouls.

Our girls just don't know how to give up. When our backs are against the wall, the determination from every single player comes shining through. It's something you can't teach they seem to feed off each other when it's needed most.

What a week it's been for Gracie, picking up both Trainer of the Week and now Player of the Match! 👏🏻🖤💛
It was another very hard choice for POTM with the whole team putting in a brilliant performance, but Gracie had to work her socks off today (like the rest of the team!). She was brave in the tackle, cleared her lines when needed and showed great distribution, with her out balls causing lots of problems for the opposition.
In recent weeks, Gracie has been asked to move the ball a bit quicker, and that was definitely on show throughout the game today. The big yin loves a tackle, and we got to witness a perfectly timed slide tackle when the game was still a bit nip and tuck, easing the pressure on the team at a crucial time!
What a week Gracie! Keep it up and very well done! 👏🏻
