🏆 THE CROWN IS CLAIMED: LADIES CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2026! 🏆
The biggest event on the calendar arrived this weekend, and the Glyn Abbey Ladies Section delivered a masterclass in drama, resilience, and jaw-dropping golf for the 2026 Club Championship! With the course primed and the stakes sky-high, the battle for the coveted Best Gross title turned into an absolute thriller.
Here is how the action unfolded across the field:
🔥 Group 1: Early Fireworks & The Hidden Surge
The lowest handicappers took to the tee in Group 1, where the battle for Best Gross was expected to be most intense.
Sophia set the course on fire early, opening with a par and a sensational birdie—becoming the first lady to get on hole #2 on the birdie tree! A few tough double bogeys after the 15th hurt her card, but it was a quality display. Meanwhile, Alana came in playing the form of her life (7 of her last 8 rounds being her lowest ever!). She played sublime, ultra-consistent par-and-bogey golf—only missing out on a birdie to remind the rest of us that she is, in fact, human!
With Celyn struggling to find her usual true form, the Best Gross title looked almost settled... until word spread from the back nine that Jen Smith was having an absolute stormer! From her birdie on the 8th all the way through to the 16th, Jen put on an absolute clinic of par and bogey golf, silently surging right to the top of the leaderboard. 💥
💣 Group 2: Chip-in Birdies, Steady Eddie & The Rollercoaster
Group 2 brought plenty of highlight-reel moments of their own:
Gail Murphy showed why she was a heavy contender for the gross crown, carding a birdie on 8 and producing an unbelievable chip-in birdie on 13, finishing strong to put serious pressure on the clubhouse lead.
Carol, the absolute 'Steady Eddie' of the section, put on a tactical clinic—finding practically every single fairway and backing it up with fantastic putting.
Sally was on an relentless birdie hunt all day. After missing out by agonizing margins, she finally sank a fabulous putt on the 16th to earn her well-deserved tree tag! 🐦
Rachel L put together a card of ultimate triumph and disaster! Playing some of the absolute best golf of her life, she inexplicably decided to go 9 off the tee on the 4th... 😱 and just to keep the card balanced, posted an 11 on the 14th! Classic golf!
⛳ Group 3: Early Birdies & Solid Rounds
Over in Group 3, Rachel W clearly felt bad for her namesake and also produced a brilliant round that was sadly marred by just two tricky holes. Diane got off to the most impressive start of the day, draining a magnificent birdie on the 1st hole! Cath put together an wonderfully solid round from start to finish, turning in a card that put her firmly in the mix at the top.

When the final cards were checked and signed, it was Jen's phenomenal back-nine charge that sealed the ultimate prize!
