πŸ¦Έβ€β™‚οΈ Superman πŸ¦Έβ€β™‚οΈ

One of my favourite exercises, and one you will be familiar with if you come to my classes. So many benefits, including:

πŸ’« Activating the core muscles
πŸ’« Improving coordination- helping us to finetune our aids, building the connection from inside leg to outside rein
πŸ’« Challenging balance- so we can always stay in balance with the horse (even if they're feeling the joys of spring)

Add this into your next workout, 3 lots of 10 repetitions per side πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ

πŸ¦„ Feedback from a fabulous client πŸ¦„

"I unreservedly recommend Chloe De Grave’s equestrian Pilates classes, for horse riders and non-riders alike. I’ve been taking part in her classes regularly, from outdoors or indoors in person pre-pandemic, to online via zoom ever since. Chloe’s is extremely knowledgeable, both as a Pilates trainer and as a successful horsewoman, and clearly explains both the how and why behind every movement. Indeed, she is one of the few instructors where her explanations are so thorough, one always knows exactly what to do, and what alternatives are available, during sessions by listening alone. Each session is different, whilst building upon techniques and skills learned in previous, with a focus on those aspects that build the core strength and balance essential for successful riding, as well as increasing general flexibly and relieving tension. Indeed, one of the most delightful qualities of Chloe’s classes is her uniquely gentle and calming manner. I, for one, certainly feel very refreshed and relaxed, as well as stronger, at the end of each session." - Jo

The hip flexors are a group of muscles at the front of the hip, responsible for bending the leg at the hip joint. Most riders have tight hip flexors, caused by spending a lot of time in the saddle or sat in a chair, with the legs bent πŸ‡ These tight muscles will limit your ability lengthen the leg, prevent you from sitting deep into the saddle, and may cause you to tip forward πŸ€”
We can counteract this by stretching the area, and often in class we use this lunge stretch pictured below. Try incorporating this stretch for 1 minute per leg, pushing the hips forward to find the stretch at the front of the hip. If you want more, reach your hands up to the sky whilst keeping your spine in alignment πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ

It's well known that planks are a great exercise for the core...
But what is the core?
It refers to the muscoskeletal system of the trunk of the body- including the spine, scapulathoracic region, the pelvis and everything in between. It's useful to imagine the core as a box, which needs each side, top and bottom, to be strong in order for it to do its job πŸ“¦
