Did you realise at Kidderminster we had a Ryder Cup player as professional? Archie Compston was professional in the 1920s.
Archie Compston (1893–1962)
One of Britain’s greatest match‑play golfers and a true pioneer of the professional game. A two‑time British PGA Matchplay Champion, Ryder Cup player, and the man who famously beat Walter Hagen 18 & 17 in 1928 — one of the most remarkable results in golf history. Compston was a regular Open contender, finishing runner‑up in 1925 and challenging Bobby Jones in 1930. Later, he became coach to the future King Edward VIII and served as professional at Wentworth and Mid Ocean Club. A legend of British golf whose impact still echoes today.
