A great nights entertainment at Wolverley tonight, with our u12 boys and girls meeting up for a friendly end of season encounter. With the introduction of headers ahead of the new season, it was an exciting game to watch.

Some great performances from both sets of players, with a chance to try out some different set plays and positional roles. The girls team played out from the back and competed really well, with some standout performances and strong defending. Some good goals and a brilliant finish for the girls team.

The boys played some good football and also created some good goals. The game was played in the right spirit and the referee let the game play fluidly. A great night of football as Lions and Lionesses got together for a good evenings workout. Well done to everyone.

Our u11 team are finishing the season off with a few games instead of tournaments, as we introduce heading and adapt to losing players. The team use friendlies instead of tournaments to guarantee a lot more playing time and this was the case this morning with Cole unavailable and Albie injured we had no substitutes.
We visited our Malvern neighbours Leigh and Bransford Badgers who’s playing surface was really good. Lions had only nine players and despite the sunshine this really suited us today. The team played some good football and scored some great goals. Billy filled the space left by our departing captain who we wish well at his new club Rock Sports. Billy and Lucas stepped up and worked really well with Jaxon, looking pretty solid and in control at the back. The game started evenly in the sunshine and although Lions were keeping possession we didn’t really test the keeper in the first stages of the game.
We continued to try and keep the ball and it paid off with Freddie opening the scoring and giving Lions a deserved lead. We grew in confidence and played some nice football with Fred extending the lead. Lions continued to probe and a great interchange of passes from Reuben and Dylan put Fred through on goal to complete a first half hat trick. Max and Harvey battled in midfield and kept us in charge of the game although Tommy was forced into a great save which he tipped round the post.
Second half was more of the same, with Billy having a great game at the back, not really giving our opponents chance to test Tommy again. Lions went on to score another two goals with Freddie getting all of our goals this morning, before Leigh and Bransford got their own consolation goal, with a sensational strike to be proud of, which flew into the top corner, to leave everyone applauding.
Overall a beneficial game for Lions, playing the full game with a different tactic and formation, again giving us plenty of options. A standout performance at the back for Billy, and a real centre forwards performance by Freddie who scored all five goals.
Well done Lions.

As the season ends we take a positive reflection on our year as we move into the 26/27 season. Over this season the lads have worked tirelessly on the training field and dug out some great results along the way, losing only a handful of games all the way through.

However, as Noah and Max played their last minutes for Lions, the final game of the season didn’t quite go to plan this morning. Great weather and facilities at the Worcester international Hockey site but Lions failed to show how well they have competed this season, and we were duly punished by our opposition, who put in a good performance. Oldbury Park sensed the Lions failed to settle today, and took the opportunity presented to them. Despite the performance and result, Lucas, Albie and Billy all put a performance in, with a special mention about Tommy who made tremendous saves, coming out of his box to beat players to the ball numerous times and leaving his goal wide open but making his way back between the sticks in time for a second attempt to dominate.

We pushed forward to try and get back in the game, and even went two at the back as we tried to find a way into the game. The oldbury park keeper deserves a mention for when we did have a shot of chance he was in good form making some great saves. As we pushed players forward Oldbury park took advantage and caught us on the counter attack. Despite today’s game we have had a great season, with a good group of players and parents.

We wish Noah the very best with his future in grassroots football, starting with us in mini kickers, it has been a joy watching him grow over the years and as the sayings go ‘once a Lion always a Lion’ which has applied to so many people over the years. He will always be welcome back into the fold if and when.

Well done boys for a great season of football. 🦁⚽️

Our U11 Lions entertained Bromsgrove Rovers this morning under bright fine sunshine. We had worked on keeping possession and the overlap pass in training and the lads were under instruction to implement training into the game.
After conceding in the first moment of the game, the lads played possession football and kept the ball quite well, which was pleasing for everyone. Lucas, Albie and Max all started off the play from the back, with varied distribution from Tommy, which worked brilliantly. Our midfield were disciplined, with Rueben, Harvey, cole and Dylan all working the ball round the pitch. Lucas had a great first half with some great overlap passing and also going close with a good strike at goal. Freddie also had shot after shot today but the Bromsgrove keeper was equal to his efforts with some good saves this morning. Lions equalised with Dylan taking his chance, with a well placed goal, going in off the inside of the post and finding the net.
Lions got a second when Reuben and Harvey burst into the box and Harvey made sure striking the ball into the net leaving the keeper no chance.
We weren’t as fluid in the second half with Freddie looking our main threat with some good efforts. Cole worked the right wing well, causing the opposition to have to defend in numbers. We worked hard and possibly should have had a few more goals, but it was a good game of football with both teams competing in the right fashion, with the referee having very little to do but keep the game flowing. Well done Lions.

What a game of football this morning delivered. Chaddesley were the visitors, and we knew they have a lot of pace, and some great defenders, so we were well prepared for what was in front of us. After a midweek training session, on playing through the lines, in front of the Worcester FA, we reverted to our pressing game to try and stop Chaddesley playing out from the back, which worked well away from home, in our earlier season encounter. The referee was very busy today with tackles going in and penalties at either end just adding to the entertainment.
Chaddesley took the lead in the first half when Tommy was adjudged to have taken the player and the ball, with VAR definitely needed to see the action again. Chaddesley made sure from the penalty spot leaving Tommy with no chance of a save.
Second half proved to be even more entertaining, with Lions being awarded their own penalty opportunity. Captain Max picked his corner but his well struck penalty was brilliantly pushed on to the inside of the post to deny Lions an equaliser. The action was end to end as both teams battled it out for the win. Lions finally got their reward with 10 minutes left to go. We pushed bodies forward and Freddie got his chance with the ball smashing in off the underside of the bar to give the Lions ascendancy. With the clock running down and substitutes and formations rotated, Lions scored again with Freddie pushing a shot past the keeper to spark celebrations for our Lions. A great game, which had everything and well done to the referee who contributed to a great mornings entertainment. A great team performance from every single player who got their tactics spot on to the letter, with everyone contributing to show what a true team work means.

Our Lions made the short journey up to Stourbridge rugby club to play Tika Taka Falcons today and had a good morning of football. It was a tight game with both teams looking to open each other up. Although both teams mostly cancelled each other out, we felt we had created more chances over the whole game, with the Falcons keeper playing well in goal, and making a great save from Max in a one on one situation. Freddie had a few half chances but Falcons tactic was looked to mark him out the game, after our previous encounter, when Fred scored his goals. When he did get behind the defence with his pace the Falcons keeper came out of his box to clear up and again win the one on one opportunity. We conceded a corner in the second half and were duly punished when we failed to react quick enough and Falcons took the lead. Tommy made a couple of good saves to make sure we were still in the match. Dylan, Cole and Noah pushed on to support Freddie as we gambled, pushing players forward. We even went 2 at the back, and in the final second of the game we won a free kick a long way out. Noah took the resulting set piece and went for the long shot. Freddie made a good run across the keeper and the distraction left the keeper no chance, with Noah rewarded with his equaliser. Overall the team played well with a lot of good performances, in a game, which was a bit scrappy at times, and a bit of a battle. Reuben and Harvey worked hard and battled all game, with Jaxon, returning from injury. Albie, Lucas, Max and Billy all closed the opposition down winning the ball back and keeping them at bay. This was a game where both sets of defenders concentrated on keeping the opposition quiet in attack.

Our U11’s had a good game this morning, with the pitches looking great and the sun shining down, the cold wind was the only thing that could spoil our sunshine football.
Lions strung 6 or 7 passes together straight from the kick off as they looked to impose their intent to control the game. Although we started well and looked to be the more dominant side, we soon fell behind to our visitors as we looked to play out from the back, and got duly punished with Oldbury Park Bengals interception and a shot fired past Tommy in goal.
Lions came back strong and it made for an entertaining half with both teams having chances. Our equaliser came from Harvey M who had a great morning, and worked like a terrier round the pitch. He got his stretched foot to the ball and poked it past the keeper into the net to get the Lions back in the game.
The lads played well this morning and were left alone to work through the match on their own. They made their way technically and tactically through the game, and together they got it spot on, with hard work, good attitude and determination proving fruitful. Harvey scored a cracking second goal when he met a cross on the volley that looped beautifully into the goal.
Some clever tactical substitutions and a tweak with the formation, saw the Lions take full control of the game. A great through ball from Dylan to Freddie, left him clean through to slot home past the advancing keeper. Freddie completed his brace with another fine finish to leave all the Lions looking proud of their performance. Both Max’s deserve a mention for good performances with some great tackling and passing into space. Billy and Albie also producing strong displays at the back with Lucas moving forward into midfield looking more than comfortable alongside Harvey and Max consolidating our side. Cole and Dylan were our outlets on the wing giving the oldbury back line a busy morning and Noah proved to be versatile again playing in numerous positions. All in all a pleasing morning for our lions, and a good team performance as we start to plan for next season. Well done Lions, and also a mention for our opposition from Worcester who played some nice football and kept us on our toes throughout. The referee was also a good example for young officials as he was excellent this morning.

Our u11 Lions visited our neighbouring village of Chaddesley for yesterday’s game in a competitive game which turned out to be a good spectacle. We have been working on pressing and keeping possession in training and our boys implemented everything in the game. The first half was a frantic pace with both teams creating chances and looking for goals. Our constant goal scorer Freddie got his goal and was unlucky not to get more goals as he was a constant goal threat. Dylan had another good game and a great chance to score but the chance went begging. Noah played well in the middle of the park, and created a great chance for Freddie with a through ball which we failed to capitalise on.
The only disappointing aspect of the first half was the goal conceded from a corner when we failed to defend our goal.
Second half saw chaddesley pin us back a bit more and our defenders stepped up with captain Max marshalling the defence and making some great tackles alongside Billy who also put some good challenges in. Reuben had a good game and cole also caused the opposition concern when on the ball. Harvey worked his socks off and Max won the midfield possession back. Although we ran out of steam from the press Lucas tried a long shot but the chaddesley keeper wasn’t really troubled. The lads worked tirelessly and Tommy made some great saves to keep us in the game. We played out from the back and after 4 or 5 passes it went astray and we were truly punished with a clinical finish. Overall a good morning with a lot of positives and on another day we would have taken more of our chances.

Our u11 lions welcomed Tiki Taka Falcons to the Lions den at Wolverley today, and had a good game of football against a battling side. Our opposition tried to play out from the back and we closed them down, pressed and made it difficult for them to get out. Dylan and Cole had very good games, and caused the opposition problems down the wings. Reuben and Max worked tirelessly up and down the pitch, to support our attacking options, and Noah proved very versatile today playing in all 3 areas of the pitch. Our back line were resilient as ever with Billy fitting nicely into the back 3 alongside ever present Lucas and Albie who won their battles. Freddie opened the scoring with a strong shot after good work from Dylan on the left. Dylan was next on the score sheet with a well taken goal after another good display. Our talisman Freddie scored an absolute screamer in the second half with one touch control out on the left and hammered the ball across the keeper into the stanchion sparking a very confident celebration. Tommy in goal was called into action as he didn’t miss a ball with a performance of full concentration and his distribution put us into some great attacking opportunities. Max F who was captain for the day in his namesakes absence scored the last goal against his old club with a long shot hit perfectly over the advancing defence and stranded keeper to complete a fine morning for our Lions.
