Our 2025 fixtures concluded with a dismal 98 run defeat on a suitably gloomy afternoon at Hockley Heath.

We put up a reasonable effort in the field to restrict the visitors to 212-7 in their 40 overs. Albie Brooks, Simon Day and Rob Chatwin all claimed two wickets, whilst Michael Peplow pulled off three excellent catches, including a full length diving effort that secured the club’s Catch of the Season award.

Unfortunately, things went downhill rapidly when it was our turn to bat. A combination of excellent bowling and suicidal running saw us slump to 15-4, and despite a hard hitting 54 from Harvey Stokes (following on from his exemplary display behind the stumps), our innings petered out for just over 110.

Despite that damp squib of a finale it has still been a fantastic season for the club, with 8 wins, 3 defeats and draw coming from our 12 Sunday fixtures.

Next up, a well deserved End of Season night out 🍻 🏏

An untimely deluge of rain scuppered our victory hopes against Avoncroft Cricket Club on Sunday.

Yianis Goodman was the star of the show in the field with two excellent catches and a fine spell of 3-46. Rob, Simon Day Albie and John G also provided useful contributions with the ball to help restrict the home side to 228-9.

Meanwhile, Harvey Stokes came agonisingly close to claiming a hat trick at the end of the innings. His 2-5 from one over stopped Avoncroft accelerating at the death and left everyone wondering why the captain had waited 34 overs before introducing him to the attack. 🤷‍♂️

Our reply got off to a blistering start thanks to a flurry of boundaries from Simon (52 not out) and some solid support from Mitch Roberts (15). Despite losing 3 wickets, we were nicely placed at 101-3 when the heavens opened to bring an early end to proceedings.

In spite of the rain, it was still a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and the match was played in excellent spirits. Good luck to Avoncroft for the rest of the season!

Next Sunday, we travel to Hockley Heath for our final fixture of the campaign 🏏

An excellent all round display saw us secure a 26 run victory at Springhill on Sunday.

None of our batters reached fifty, but Jon Preston Harvey Stokes Simon Day Rob Chatwin and John Goodman all passed 30 to help us to a solid 222-9 from our 35 overs.

The hosts made a good start to their chase despite tight opening spells from John G (0-29) and Albie Brookes (1-25), and at the half way stage they were well poised at 90-1. However, a miserly spell from Simon (2-24) plus some superb death bowling from Harvey (1-13) halted the visitors charge and left them short of their target.

We improved our season record to 7 wins from 9 games, thanks to a low scoring home victory over Clent on Sunday.

Asked to bat first on a pitch that could best be described as ‘not suitable for cricket’, we cobbled together 138 all out from 31 overs. Rob top scored with 32, but whilst several other players made double figures it was extremely slow going on an X rated wicket.

Clent found things even tougher, largely thanks to superb opening spells from Albie Brokes (3-20) and John Goodman (2-24). There was a brief rally from the visitors, but 2-14 from Yianis Goodman and some (mostly) good catching saw Clent fall to 99 all out, giving us a comfortable 39 run victory.

A disappointing display in the field saw us fall to our second defeat of the season, as we lost by 4 wickets at home to Blackwood on Sunday.

Batting first, we put a solid total of 192-4 on the board, with new overseas player Tom Rochford scoring an impressive 65. Harvey Stokes also chipped in with a valuable 50, whilst some late hitting from Rob Chatwin (35*) helped us reach a competitive score.

Unfortunately, the total proved to be inadequate, as despite 3 wickets from Rob and a brace from Jon Preston, a string of dropped chances in the field meant that the visitors reached their target with 4 wickets remaining. 🏏

After last week’s first defeat of the season, we got back to winning ways with a comprehensive 7 wicket victory at Clent on Sunday afternoon.

The home side elected to bat first and, despite a wicket each for Harry Chatwin and Albie, they made a rapid start and looked on course for a big total. However, Yianis Goodman slowed their progress with 2-21, before Simon Day (3-10) and Rob Chatwin (3-3) ripped through the rest of their batting to bowl them all out for just 116.

That total proved to be well below par as we knocked off the runs in just 18 overs. Captain Jon Preston led us home with 65*, whilst Harvey Stokes supported him with a well made 35.

Special mention to Albie (even though he’s not on Facebook!) who had to make a quick trip to A&E following a nasty looking hand injury. After getting checked out, he was back at the ground in time to watch us secure victory and join us for a couple of victory pints 🏏 🍻

Next week we travel to Hockley Heath, as we need to make it seven wins from eight for the season.

Our long unbeaten run came to a halt on Sunday as we slumped to a 32 run defeat at home to Beaumont.

It was looking good early on, as we reduced the visitors to 15-3, thanks to an inspired opening spell from John Goodman (3-33). However, poor fielding and catching let the visitors off the hook and, despite 2-21 from Simon Day, Beaumont made an excellent recovery to post 192-7 from their 35 overs.

We also made a strong start with the bat and raced to 60-0 after 9 overs. But after openers Simon (33) and Jon Preston (22) fell, we continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Dan Church kept us in the game with a quick fire 34, but despite some late runs from John G we were all out for 160.

Another week and another narrow victory for Blakedown, as we edged out Stourbridge Social by 14 runs on a hugely enjoyable afternoon.

Asked to bat first on a tricky wicket, we battled hard to post a competitive 185-5 from our 30 overs. Simon Day (52 retired out) and Mitch Roberts (27) formed the backbone of the innings, whilst a quick fire 38 not out from Jon Preston gave us a strong finish.

Stourbridge made a solid start to their reply and kept up with the run rate for large chunks of their innings. But two early wickets from Albie, an excellent spell of 3-29 from Yianis Goodman plus some superb death overs from Vaseem Ershed, kept us slightly ahead of the game.

It all came down to the last over, when a smart catch from Albie in the covers meant the visitors were all out, 14 short of their target.

An excellent afternoon was had by all. Big thanks to Stourbridge for a superb game and we hope to see you all again next year.

Next week we’re at home to Beaumont (1:30pm start) 🏏

We kept up our 100% record for the season thanks to a thrilling 2 wicket victory in the stunning Cotswold village of Overbury.

Batting first, the visitors made a rapid start and looked set for a huge total. Two wickets from Yianis Goodman slowed their progress (as did the fact that the rules of the game required batters to retire at 50!), before Jon Preston and Simon Day also claimed two wickets each to help restrict Overbury to 208-7.

We also made a fast start to our innings thanks to an unbeaten 50 from Simon and 33 from John. Our progress was then slowed by a flurry of wickets, but a quick fire 53 (retired not out) from Rob took us to the brink of victory, before the father and son duo of Chad and Oscar Leslie saw us over the line with just 3 balls to spare.

02/06/2025

We maintained our 100% record for the season with a dominant 10 wicket victory over Flyford Flavell on Sunday.

After losing the toss, we were asked to field first, but soon reduced the visitors to 21-4 thanks to two wickets each for Albie and John G plus some excellent catching from cover specialist Mitch Roberts and new wicketkeeper Harvey Stokes.

Flyford batted well to rebuilt their innings, but two wickets apiece from Simon Day and the returning Wasim (who somehow managed to break a stump in half 💪🏻) helped restrict the visitors to 165-8.

That total proved to be a long way below par, as Johnny P and Simon blasted rapid half centuries in an opening partnership of 115. After both openers retired not out it was left to Mitch and Rob to see us home with more than 10 overs to spare.

We’re without a fixture this Sunday, but are at home to Worcester Nomads on June 15th (Tickets still available) 🏏

We continued our unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable 112 run victory over Avoncroft Cricket Club on Sunday.

Batting first on a tricky wicket we posted an excellent 225-9. Simon Day led the way with 71, whilst Mitch Roberts (20) and John Goodman (31) also chipped in with key runs.

There was a late flurry of wickets, but Harvey Stokes blasted a rapid 42 to ensure we put a competitive score on the board.

The home side raced to 46-0 off 4 overs, before 2 wickets apiece for John G (2-35) and Albie Brookes (2-26) halted their progress. Yianis Goodman (2-32) and Simon (2-2) then ripped through the middle order before Oscar Leslie finished the job with 2-17. 🏏

We started the new season in style on Sunday with an impressive 12 run victory over Springhill.
Johnny Preston was the star of the show with his maiden century (113*), whilst Mitch (23) and Rob. (20*) also made valuable contributions as we scored 165-2 from our 35 overs.

Two early wickets from John G pegged the visitors back early on, and whilst the game remained close until the end, 3 wickets from Rob ensured Springhill fell short of their target. 🏏
