Dear members
Our annual planned summer maintenance starts on Monday 19th August. Here is our daily work schedule for the week.
Monday
Greens will be scarified, verticut, cut, top dressed and overseeded.
This will remove thatch from the top profile of the soil which causes greens to hold moisture and become saturated. The top dressing replenishes the organic matter that we will be removing, resulting in better playing surfaces and greens that will further withstand the wetter weather.
We will overseed with bent grass, this is a finer species of grass that is more resistant to disease, drought and can perform well when cut shorter. This is important for achieving our aim of providing quality putting surfaces.
Tuesday
More top dressing on the greens.
This is done to level out any imperfections from the previous day and will help improve the soil profile further.
Tees & approaches will be solid tined. This is done to remove compaction that has built up throughout the playing season and allow the water the pe*****te through the surface better.
Wednesday
Tees & approaches will be top dressed and approaches will be overseeded.
Top dressing these surfaces is done for a similar reason to greens and will help improve the soil profile and improve drainage.
The seed used to overseed approaches will be a blend of rye and fescue.
Rye is a more robust species of grass that is more drought tolerant and provides good coverage.
Fescue is a finer species that can withstand disease better and hot spells of weather. As our aim is to cut these surfaces slightly shorter giving golfers more options of what shots to play around the greens.
Thursday
Tees overseeded with Rye grass. Further top dressing on tees & approaches
With Rye providing good coverage and its robustness, it is perfect for tees.
Friday
Further top dressing.
This is a brief overview of the week ahead, we ask you that if green staff are working whilst you're playing the hole, please be patient.
Certain holes may be shut at times to allow work to continue at a good speed. This will be kept to an absolute minimum. If there is work going on a specific hole please walk through unless playing in a club match.
We appreciate that this can be a frustrating time, but the work carried out will only further improve the golf course.
We really appreciate your support and understanding
The Greens Team
