Winter Camp

My Nan & Grandad (William Myers & Audrey Ferguson) were lifelong members of the K Fellfarers walking group and joined in their teens in the early 1940's. I remember as a small child staying at the Hostel, singing Kumbaya round a campfire while somebody played a guitar and my Granpops making us all little boats to race down the stream 🙂
They left a large collection of photographs. some of which I have posted below. When I have time I will get them all scanned. I think my Granpops lent them out when the recent book was published, so if you have read it, you might have seen some of them before. Whilst not exactly pictures of Kendal, they all show people who were no doubt from or very local to Kendal.
K Fellfarers is one of the longest established outdoor clubs in the Lakes, and according to the late Harry Griffin in his book The Coniston Tigers, has the third oldest bunkhouse. It was started in the 1930’s by Somervell Bros (who later became K Shoes) as an employee benefit, and during the same period, a lease on the High House property in Seathwaite, Borrowdale was acquired for conversion into a bunkhouse.
