Bures keeps producing the goods and more fishery maintenance.

A big Thank You to Brian Griffiths for installing two new platforms at Bures to create additional pegs. As you'll see, he made good use of one of them catching some cracking roach and perch.

David Maginn clearly likes Mondays with yet another net of quality roach.

Christened the new platform didn’t start until 11.30 couldn’t get any bites on h**p or tares until 2 50 then bite a chuck

Fished worm close in for couple of hours to get some perch lost 2 big fish which I never saw !! Strange day how they just switch on fished until 4.15 all roach 4-8 oz finished with 8lb 12 oz wish I could have stayed later as they were coming thick and fast !

Very enjoyable sitting comfortably fishing a new swim

Monday Match Roundup

Sunday was the EPHDAS monthly match outing to Pea Lane near Upminster.

The venue has been tough for the last few years and it was for many again yesterday however, while bites may have been hard to come by, the average size of the fish was huge for a match, with plenty of carp over 10lbs being weighed in, including two over 15lbs for Bernie Hamilton and Colin Luff.

Colin, again, bashed up the rest of the field to weigh in 99lbs, with Brian Griffiths and Dave Boyland tying for second with 50lb 6oz each. Brian is now desperately regretting dropping two 4oz roach during the match.

Brian also managed 15lb of silvers and a lumpy old warrior 4lb bream was also caught.

Winner: Colin Luff 99lbs
Joint 2nd: Brian Griffiths Dave Boyland 50lb 6oz.

Doddinghurst Work Party Saturday 12th.

Big thanks to the members who turned out to the short notice work party on Saturday.

Plenty of hands meant that lots of clearing was done, making the banks and swims tidy and accessible again.

One big job that the low water levels allows us to get done was cutting back the willow in Peg 11, which is a great swim but a bit of a tackle trap! The Bish was cut back and, as far as we can tell, the hidden underwater snags removed. You can now fish closer to the tree. Do gear up properly though. 😁

Some stabilisation work was done to pegs that are normally underwater and the whole place is now ready for autumn and winter, so do get over for some great fishing.

River Roach. 🎣

Following on from our recent River Stour post, member David Maginn sent these photos in from a recent session on our Bures stretch, showing that even in the trickier summer months the fishing is still good with the right approach on the right day.

Dave used an 8m pole and fished punch, h**p and tares to bag some quality roach, fishing light as there is not much flow at the moment.

Dave also reported large numbers of fry in the margins, which is great news for future seasons.

If you’re fishing Bures over the coming weeks, send them over via Facebook Messenger — we’d be pleased to share them.

Members Post - Request for Help Saturday 12/9/26

Folks, given the arrival of the recent rain, the undergrowth at Doddinghurst has put on a predictable growth spurt.

Due to work and domestic commitments, Dave George and Bernie have got very limited time to do maintenance for a couple of months so, this Saturday Bernie will be going to the lake to do some vital trimming and clearly up.

He needs a couple of willing hands to do some raking up and putting cut brambles etc. into builders bags as he's not going to be able to do the whole lot on his own.

Estimate 1-2 two hours maximum with a few willing volunteers. Can I suggest that the match group might want to help out here as the silvers league starts in October, if you want clear pegs you'll need to chip in or you'll be fighting the brambles until December.

Bernie will be looking to start around 0930, if you can bring a rake and gloves, that will help.

River fishing with EPHDAS

With September here and the colder months not too far away, it’s a good time to start thinking about the River Stour.

EPHDAS members have access to our stretches at Bures and Henny and like many rivers they can really come into their own in the autumn and into the colder months.

Although the species are similar, the two stretches offer refreshingly different fishing: Bures is well suited to settling into a swim for the day and fishing for roach, chub, bream and perch, and can produce some excellent bags of roach on the stick float and pole; Henny is more of a roving venue and gives you plenty of water to explore, especially for the pike.

Both stretches offer good pike fishing, with Bures tending to produce the larger average size and Henny better for higher numbers of fish in the right conditions. It can really refresh your watercraft!

A busy week for the EPHDAS match section 🎣

Two matches this week, starting with the David George Over-60s on Thursday at Doddinghurst, where six anglers fished and put together a cracking 198 lb total weight.
Top weights were 64 lb, 60 lb 8 oz, with 26 lb, 22 lb 8 oz, 19 lb and 6 lb the backing weights.

Sunday was the August MCO at Southend Farm on Damselle Lake, where there were some more good weights, dominated by quality silvers. Colin Luff came out on top with 46 lb 8 oz, followed by Dave Jacks with 36 lb 12 oz and David Ostler with 31 lb 4 oz.

There was a good mixture of fish caught across the two matches, with carp, bream and plenty of silvers making up the weights.
A really good couple of matches and plenty of fish caught.
