END OF AN ERA

They say all good things must come to an end, but saying goodbye to this team is one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do. After an unforgettable journey, Kelty Hearts 2008s have finished their final chapter in youth football.

For some of these boys, this isn’t just the end of a season; it’s the end of a lifetime together. Over 12 years, they have grown up side-by-side on the pitch. They started as kids chasing a ball, and they leave us today as fine young men.
Together, they’ve shared the highest of highs, lifting a league title and they've also shared standard-defining heartbreaks, like a fiercely fought but inevitably lost cup final. Through every win, loss, and muddy winter training session, they built a bond that time will never erase.

Now, the next chapter begins, and the paths they are taking reflect just how hard they've worked:

🎓 Some of the lads are heading off to University, ready to conquer the next academic challenge.

⚽ Others are keeping their local football journey alive, stepping up to join Lochgelly Albert u20s.

✈️ And in an incredible milestone, one of our boys is crossing the Atlantic to chase the dream on a football scholarship at a US College.

To the players: Thank you for the memories, the dedication, and the passion you poured into the team. You have represented your coaches and each other with absolute distinction.

To the parents, coaches, and everyone who stood on the sidelines rain or shine for the last decade: Thank you for making this family what it was.

The team might be dispersing, but the brotherhood will last forever.

Thank you for everything, boys. Go make your mark on the world. ❤️⚽

We arrived at King George V Park in Leven to face Methilhill Strollers on Tuesday night. We were on a 3 game unbeaten run which we were keen to extend.

There was a chill in the air but Kelty certainly brought the heat.

We started the game fast although it did take us some time to adjust to the pitch. The grass was on the long side and it was holding the ball up which resulted in a few passes being under hit. Once we got into a rhythm it was mostly one way traffic. Methilhill did venture forward a few times with their left winger and centre forward being most involved but they didn't manage to cause any real problems for Russell in the Kelty goal in the early stages.
The Methilhill keeper was in inspired form the last time the 2 sides met and he started in the same vein with a couple of good stops.
Just after we passed 20 minutes we got the opening goal. After a nice move the ball was played to Murrell just inside the box and he had a shot at goal, a defender tried to stop it and put his head in the way, unfortunately for him the header changed the flight of the ball taking away from the keeper and into the net. There was an element of good fortune about the goal but on the balance of play it was probably deserved.

We then seen a flurry of 4 goals in about 15 minutes.
Just before the half hour mark some excellent interplay resulted in Dryburgh smashing one beyond the keeper from about 20 yards. 3 Minutes later the same player had Kelty's 3rd and his 2nd.
Some good work from Muir and Cowx down the right channel saw the full back whip a ball into the box. Dryburgh, who was playing in a more central role than normal read it brilliantly and nipped in near the front post and headed home for his 4th goal in 3 games.
5 Minutes hadn't passed when Gardner notched our 4th.
A long throw from Pereira found it's way to Gardner's feet, he lashed a shot towards goal which the keeper done well to stop but the rebound came back to him and he nodded in to the unguarded net. A headed goal each for probably the 2 shortest players on the pitch.
As we approached half time Baxter got on the score sheet for the second consecutive game taking his tally for the season to 13.
A fabulous through ball from Wilkie was finished brilliantly by the Kelty captain.
Right on the stroke of half time Methilhill looked certain to score. After a snapshot from a corner down to Russell's right side bottom corner that he managed to stop he threw himself at the rebound effort which he managed to stop again as he crashed into his post.

By the time we got to half time the game as a contest had been put to bed. We do however know Methilhill are a resilient bunch and would come out swinging in the second half to restore a bit pride. The half time message was not to switch off and to continue moving the ball as we had done in the first half.
Both Simon & Seaman were introduced to the fold at half time.

Within a minute of the restart Methilhill were awarded a free kick about 35 yards out. From the resultant free kick a cross was put into the box and a Methilhill player moved across the box to evade his marker and got a head onto it. He diverted it away from Russell and into the net.

Within a few minutes of Methilhill getting on the score sheet the 5 goal cushion was restored. A corner was swung in from the left and Seaman was on hand near the back corner of the 6 yard box to blast into the net.
A few minutes later the lead was extended further. Simon had been put through on the keeper and as he bore down on goal a defender pushed him in the back sending him tumbling. The referee immediately pointed to the spot. On another day it would've resulted in a red card as there was no genuine attempt to play the ball but the defender got off with a yellow.
Simon then stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.
Kelty continued to control possession but despite the scoreline Methilhill showed good character and continued to battle. Russell in the Kelty goal was called on a few times to ensure the hosts didn't increase their score. He made a fantastic stop in a 1 v 1 situation and shortly after made a great double save.
Kelty saved the best goal of the game for last. Due to a smaller squad Ryan Hunter (goalkeeper) had kitted up for outfield duties and was brought on with around 25 minutes to play. He took his place up front. As the clock ticked past 80 minutes another good Kelty move took us into the Methilhill box. A chipped pass landed by the feet of Hunter about 15 yards out right of centre, it bounced once and the keeper-come-striker put his laces clean through it. The ball flew across the Methilhill keeper and almost took the net off the goal as it ripped in to the top left corner. Remarkably it was Hunters 2nd league goal of the season (although first from open play) following his penalty against Rosyth in similar squad circumstances.

The victory makes it 4 unbeaten in what's been a strong end to the season.
2 Games left, another trip to Leven this coming Tuesday to face East Fife. Our opponents on Tuesday are chasing the league title but we have our own aspirations of finishing as high in the league as possible and it all culminates with a visit to Kinross a week on Sunday.

We made the short trip up to Kinghorn on Sunday to face old rivals Kirkcaldy.
The pitch was in poor condition so we knew it wasn't going to be a pretty affair.

Kirkcaldy opened the scoring after 20 minutes with a penalty that had been awarded following a strong challenge from Pereira which appeared to be outside the box, however in fairness to the referee the lines were very faint.
The hosts didn't have the lead long as within 3 minutes Wilkie played a ball into Muir who played it to Dryburgh, the winger placed a lovely shot with his left foot into the corner of the net.
Within another 5 minutes Kelty edged ahead. The Kirkcaldy keeper had taken a high line and an attempted pass back was chased down by Wilkie, the ball hit a ditch just as it approached the keepers feet and bobbled up, it caught the keeper out and Wilkie was sharp to steal it away, a defender had got back but the Kelty striker turned him before slamming it home beyond the keeper who was trying to recover back.
There wasn't necessarily much good football being played but the game was being fiercely contested and was an entertaining watch.
A few minutes after going behind Kirkcaldy created a great chance, their striker was through on Hunter but the Kelty keeper spread himself and made a fantastic save. A couple of minutes later and Hunter was again at Kelty's rescue. A long throw came into the box and the ball was pinging about, Hunter got a strong hand onto a shot and quickly recovered to put himself between the ball and the goal from the rebound and saved it with his face.
The game was back and forth but on the stroke of half time Kirkcaldy got themselves level. A shot was hit along the ground from the edge of the box, Hunter dived low for what looked like a comfortable save but as it approached him it struck a divit in the 6 yard box that spun it up and over him.
2-2 At half time was probably a fair result based on balance of play and both teams had been hurt by the imperfections on the pitch.

Kelty started the second half quickly and thought we were ahead 5 minutes after the restart. Wilkie played into Simon who slipped in Muir who finished across the keeper and into the net.
The referee blew for an offside which was controversial to say the least, we still have no idea who was offside.
10 Minutes later Kelty had the ball in the net again and for the second time it was ruled out for a controversial offside. Meiklejohn swung in a great ball from a free kick and Wilkie rose highest and powered a header towards goal, Dryburgh nipped in at the back post to make sure but despite starting his run from behind the defensive line was ruled offside.
As time ticked down past 90 Kelty thought they'd nicked it. A long throw from Pereira made it's way across the box and after a deflection or two landed at the feet of Baxter about 6 yards out. The Kelty captain chipped it over the sprawling keeper to finally put Kelty ahead again.
The referee said 5 minutes injury time was to be played. Kirkcaldy won a corner shortly after the restart, the first one was cleared out for another corner. This time the cross was deep and a Kirkcaldy player made a late run and popped up at the back post to equalise.

Kelty didn't have much time to respond and the referee blew for full time.
A draw was about right but it was a bit of a blow to think we'd stolen the points only for Kirkcaldy to equalise minutes later.

Our final game at New Central Park kicked off into the sunshine on Sunday afternoon and probably summed up our season - we went from the good to the poor to the ridiculous and back to the good.
Having not played Kinross this season our opponents were somewhat of an unknown to us.

We started the game well and kept possession as we probed the Kinross back line. Kinross kept numbers behind the ball and were difficult to break down.
Just after quarter of an hour Baxter made a line breaking run that put him through on the keeper, the keeper rushed out and as Baxter touched it past him he was tripped by the outstretched leg. The referee pointed to the spot.
Baxter who is normally so reliable from the spot put his effort just over the bar and we remained goalless.

We did eventually get our noses in front. A quick throw in found Muir who rolled it just in front of Wilkie and from about 20 yards Wilkie hit a low drive that nestled in the bottom corner.

The lead didn't last long as within a couple of minutes Kinross forced a penalty of their own. A ball into the Kelty box wasn't dealt with and it broke to a Kinross attacker, McMillan mistimed his challenge and sent the forward tumbling.
The Kinross taker made no mistake and levelled the score from the spot.

After the equaliser Kelty lost a bit of shape and frustration started to grow within the team. It had a clear effect on performance as Kinross came back into the game and started to cause Kelty some problems. Hunter had to be sharp a few times in the Kelty goal to keep the score at 1-1.
We did still have chances of our own, Murrell had a couple of opportunities but saw his shots saved and others had shots off target.
Just before half time we had possession deep in our own half, Kinross managed to turn it over and a square ball found a forward unmarked and he lashed it home to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

At half time we tweaked the shape back to something more familiar for the boys and spoke about regaining a bit of composure.

The second half started in similar fashion to how the first ended, Kelty huffed and puffed and whilst we had more of the ball we failed to really get at Kinross.
With about half an hour to play Kinross worked the ball towards the Kelty box and a player found space in the middle at the edge of the box and he hit a ferocious shot that flew into the net for 3-1.
The goal gave Kinross a huge lift and left us with a huge task.

With about 20 minutes to go we got an important goal that brought us right back into the match. A deep corner was cleared and after a bit of pin ball it bounced in front of Zak Cummings at the edge of the box, the winger put his laces through it and it took a deflection off a defenders leg which completely wrong footed the keeper and sent it into the net. A first goal for Cummings in maroon.
Kinross were starting to feel the pressure as Kelty found another gear and started to force the issue. With just 10 minutes to go Dryburgh got the equaliser with goal of the game. He dribbled in from the left and from about 25 yards unleashed an unstoppable strike that hit the top corner.
Back on level terms and with 10 minutes still to go we had the belief we could go on and win the game.
We piled on the pressure and Kinross defended desperately.
With about 5 minutes to go we got the crucial goal. It was played into the feet of Wilkie with his back to goal, in one movement he turned and shot from just behind the penalty spot and the ball hit the net. It was Kelty's 100th goal of the season (all competitions) and Wilkie's 25th.

Kinross tried throwing everything they had at us but didn't really manage to trouble Hunter in the Kelty goal and we saw the game out.

We sign off from New Central Park with back to back victories and with 10 wins from 18 games across all competitions for the season.
We have 4 league games remaining and next up is a trip to the Myre in Kinghorn to face our old rivals Kirkcaldy.

We got back on the winning trail on Wednesday night following a hard fought defeat to Rosyth and a disappointing second half performance against East Fife that saw them run away with it.

Our opponents were St Andrews and they've had a strong maiden season and sit around mid table. We managed to come back from 3-0 down to take the spoils 4-3 in the away fixture near the start of the season.

The game started frantically with neither team really getting a grip of proceedings. With almost 15 minutes gone the first piece of real quality brought the first goal. After turning over possession Tod played a ball into Dryburgh who slipped it wide to Wilkie. Muir had made a great run in from the left and Wilkie found him in the box. Muir made no mistake as he calmly slotted it past the keeper from about 10 yards.
After the goal Kelty settled down and started to dominate possession.
Just before the half hour Dryburgh hit the post and about a minute later he had a headed goal ruled out for offside.

With 10 minutes to go before half time Kelty did get a second. Cowx put in a teasing cross from the left and Wilkie leaped to bullet a header into the net leaving the keeper with no chance.
Kelty were now in control of the game and 5 minutes later it was 3-0. Wilkie had peeled out left and chipped a delightful ball into the box, Dryburgh was on hand to head it down and Baxter met the knock down on a half volley that took a slight deflection that wrong footed the keeper on its way into the net.
A minute later Kelty looked to have put the contest to bed. A shot from the edge of the box was blocked by the outstretched arm of a St Andrews defender and the referee pointed to the spot. Baxter stepped up and put it into the corner for his second and Kelty's fourth.

Just on the stroke of half time St Andrews gave themselves a lifeline. We failed to pick up a runner and the St Andrews midfielder got on the ball at the edge of the box, he struck it well and it curled just inside Russell's left hand post.

The second half turned into a bit of a scrappy affair. Kelty had much more of the ball but didn't show the same quality that brought 4 first half goals. We did however get a fifth with half an hour remaining. Dryburgh was once again the architect with a fantastic cross from the right, it was met by the head of Muir who powered it home for his second of the night.

As time ticked down St Andrews kept battling and did get another goal back, a speculative shot from about 30 yards curled and dipped and landed in the top corner, it was a fantastic strike but it was too little too late for St Andrews and the 3 points stayed in Kelty.

Sunday will see us play our final game at New Central Park as we finish the season with 4 away games.
It'd be great to see as many friends and family there as possible to give the boys the send off they deserve.

A tough game against league leaders Rosyth on Monday night ended our winning streak in the league.
Unfortunately in this one we were creators of our own downfall in the first half with Rosyth scoring 3 goals directly from misplaced Kelty passes.
Rosyth have an abundance of quality footballers and they punished us harshly for the mistakes.
Wilkie did give us a glimmer of hope before the half with a fantastic lob finish from just outside the box.

It would have been easy to capitulate to a heavy defeat but the boys rallied in the second half and we got ourselves back into the game.
A fantastic turn and shot from 20 yards from Muir that clipped the inside of the post on its way in was soon followed by an phenomenal run down the left wing and stunning strike from Matty Gardner that flew in off the underside of the bar to narrow the gap to 5-3.
Rosyth worked another goal to extend their lead before Wilkie capitalised on a rebound and poked home to give us back the momentum and once again reduce the gap to 2 goals.
At that point Rosyth were hanging on a bit and started to play more direct. Murrell then hit the bar with an audacious lob that would've undoubtedly made for an extremely tense finish.
As the clock hit 90 Rosyth had a quick break and sealed the win with another fantastic strike from around 25 yards that flew into the top corner.

Of the 11 goals in the game 7 were strikes from outside the box and included a number of contenders for goal of the season.

From our perspective we know that the mistakes we made in the first half were essentially what cost us but we take positivity from the way we rallied in the second half and made a real game of it.

Next up is East Fife, another strong contender for the league title and another opportunity to test ourselves against the best teams in the region. We drew with them in the league cup group stage at the start of the season so we know if we're at it we can cause them problems.

Back to back league wins for the boys following an excellent performance on Wednesday night.

Cree Baxter scored his first hatrick for the club to cap what was a real captain's performance, the first of the 3 being the pick of the bunch as he struck a first time volley on his unfavoured left foot from the edge of the box that was postage stamp top corner.

Next up we host league leaders Rosyth on Monday 13th April in what will undoubtedly prove a huge challenge. Everyone is looking forward to testing ourselves against one of the best teams in the region.

This weekend we go again against Dundonald Bluebell in another cup quarter final.
We were victors against the same side a few weeks ago in the Regional Cup and so we know what to expect from our opponents. Equally they'll know the threats that we offer.
Dundonald edge the head to head battle 2 games to 1 this season and so nothing is being taken for granted.
We fully expect a closely contested competitive fixture.

Sundays opponents had got the better of us in both league fixtures this season and whilst we felt on balance of play we should have taken something from the game at home just before Christmas, Dundonald took all the points back up to Glenrothes.

We've seen our best performances this season in cup games and this one was to follow the theme.
Quarter final of the Regional Cup is a fairly big deal and we were determined to move on to the semis.
We were out the blocks fast and looked to take the game to Dundonald. We were playing some really attractive football and started on the front foot.
Dundonald were hanging on but around the half hour mark Kelty deservedly got our noses in front. A throw in midway inside the Dundonald half was taken quickly and some great quick interplay through the middle led to Muir playing it wide to Meiklejohn who squared it across goal from the bye line for Murrell to turn it in from about 6 yards out.
Kelty kept up the pressure and 5 minutes after the goal we won a free kick just inside Dundonald's half. It was taken quickly and fed out to Muir who burst into the box from an angle and struck a shot across the keeper, it looked destined for the back of the net but the face of the far post and rebounded out just beyond Murrell and was cleared.
Right on the stroke of half time the frame of the goal once again saved our opponents. Dryburgh picked up the ball about 40 yards from goal wide on the left, he played a high looping ball and cross came shot as the keeper was left rooted to the spot as it sailed over him and crashed off the underside of the bar and then bounced out.
We got in at halftime 1 goal up but knew the game was still in the balance. We expected Dundonald to start fast and the message was we needed to match their energy as the next goal was crucial.
Dundonald tried to have a real go but our engine room was working hard and they struggled to get create any clear chances.
With just less than half an hour to go we extended our lead. We won a free kick off to the right about 45 yards out. Meiklejohn stepped up and landed a brilliant cross on the head of Wilkie who bulleted his header beyond the keeper and into the net. It was Meiklejohn's second goal assist of the game.

With about 20 minutes to go Hunter had to be sharp in the Kelty goal as a defensive mistake turned over possession near the edge of our own box, the forwards first attempt was well saved by the Kelty keeper and the second shot from the rebound went wide. It was an important stop as a goal would have undoubtedly given Dundonald renewed belief.

As the clock ticked past 85 minutes the contest was put to bed. Full back Cowx who scored his first goal in over a year the week before made it 2 goals in 2 games with probably the best goal he's ever scored. He picked up a cleared ball about 30 yards from goal, took a touch to create a yard of space and let fly with a phenomenal strike, it flew towards the top corner and although the keeper managed to get a fingertip to it he was unable to stop it from rippling the net to make the score 3-0.

The boys now march on to the East Region Cup semi final meaning that despite our inconsistent league form we have the League Cup final, Regional Cup semi final and Fife Cup quarter final all to look forward to.

Excellent performance from the boys this week, the second half wasn't as fluid as the first but we saw off the early storm and in the end finished the game comfortably.

Next up is league leaders Raith Rovers who have played 11 and won 11.
On our day we'll give anyone a game, particularly at home and we look forward to the test with a belief we can take something.
