Match Report: Kelso CC First XI vs Leith Fab, Saturday 20th June

Kelso First XI were edged out by two wickets on Saturday in a contest that stayed tight from the first over to the last.

After winning the toss, Kelso opted to bat and made an assured start thanks to a composed opening stand from JS Gibson and C Davidson. On a wicket that offered plenty of challenges, both players showed patience and good judgement to steer the innings through the early overs.

JS Gibson - 45
C Davidson - 42

Kelso worked their way to 134 for 6, a total that reflected the tricky conditions as much as the effort put in.

Kelso’s bowlers kept the pressure on throughout Leith Fab's reply, with two standout spells.

C Davidson 4 for 21 (8 overs)
K Keddie 2 for 15 (8 overs)

Leith Fab eventually reached 135 for 8, just doing enough to get over the line.

Given the absence of several key players and the nature of the wicket, this was always going to be a demanding fixture.

Kelso now turn their attention to next weekend, when they host Drummond Trinity at home. We regroup, we push on and we go again.

Kelso Cricket Club’s First XI delivered a composed, collective performance on Sunday 14 June, securing a well‑earned win over Carlton 3.

Match Report - Kelso vs Carlton 3

Carlton won the toss and chose to bowl first, but Kelso’s batters rose to the challenge with one of their most rounded team efforts of the season. Opener JS Gibson set the tone with a solid 43, giving Kelso the platform they needed. He was well supported throughout the innings, with contributions across the order:

JS Gibson - 43
R Hogarth - 21
K Keddie- 18

With contributions from most of the team Kelso built their way to a competitive 152 for 9.

Kelso’s bowlers then produced an excellent all‑round display, maintaining pressure from the first over to the last.

Opening pair JS Gibson and G Davidson got Kelso off to a good start, applying early pressure and keeping the run rate tight.

A superb middle‑overs partnership from K Keddie and C Adams kept Carlton contained, before the Davidson brothers finished the innings off with composure and accuracy.

Bowling figures:
K Keddie 3 - 24 (8 overs)
C Davidson 3 - 25 (6 overs)
G Davidson 1-17 (8 overs)
C Adams 1 -24 (8 overs)
JS Gibson 1–33 (8 overs)

Carlton were bowled out for 143, giving Kelso a deserved victory built on teamwork, discipline and consistency across all departments. A standout performance behind the stumps from young JA Gibson, who was lightning‑quick with his hands and kept brilliantly throughout the innings.

A great team performance, a great win, and plenty of positives to carry forward.

Kelso U16s vs Galashiels U16s, Wednesday 10th June

A positive all‑round team performance from Kelso U16s on Wednesday evening as they hosted Galashiels U16s at Shedden Park.

Galashiels won the toss and chose to bat first, but Kelso’s bowlers kept the score tight and took wickets at key moments.

After their 16 overs, Galashiels finished on 77 for 5.

H Mackereth 2–8 off 2 overs
A Keddie 1–2 off 2 overs
R Bryson 1–4 off 2 overs
F Becattelli 1–8 off 2 overs

Kelso made light work of the chase, showing maturity and confidence with the bat. They reached the target for the loss of just two wickets.

A Keddie 28*
R Bryson 23*

A convincing win, but more importantly, a match played in great spirit. Both sides showcased real talent and promise, fantastic to see the continued youth development in both clubs.

Match Report – Kelso CC First XI vs RHC 3

Kelso’s First XI produced some of their best bowling and fielding of the season, but it still wasn’t enough to secure the win against RHC 3 yesterday, as a difficult batting display proved costly.

Kelso won the toss and chose to bowl first - a decision that paid off early as the attack settled into an excellent rhythm. RHC 3 were bowled out for 149, with several standout performances:

G Davidson 3–18 from 8 overs
A Keddie 2–25 from 7 overs
JS Gibson 2–26 from 6.3 overs
K Keddie 2–28 from 8 overs

The fielding effort matched the bowling - sharp, committed and disciplined, arguably Kelso’s strongest display with the ball this season.

Unfortunately, the batting innings told a very different story. Apart from a determined 33 from opener C Davidson, no other Kelso batter reached double figures

Wickets fell regularly, momentum never settled, and the chase slipped away quickly.

Kelso were eventually dismissed well short, giving RHC 3 victory by 84 runs.

Our First XI are at home this week against RHC3.
