Family Archival Workshop: Memories of the Commonwealth Games in Scotland

When: Thursday 13th August 2026, 14:00
Where: University of Stirling Library (Reading Room)

Come along for a FREE exploratory workshop where you can take a closer look at a range of archival materials from the Commonwealth Games held in Scotland in 1970, 1986 and 2014. You can also bring along your own souvenirs from the 2026 Games!

We’ll provide dictaphones for each group so you can capture your own memories, reflections, or thoughts about the Games. Feel free to interview each other or record whatever comes to mind as you explore the room - it's totally up to you how you use them!

This workshop is open to all ages. You can still attend if your group does not include children!

It was great to collaborate with the University's archival team to curate a display display highlighting the of University of Glasgow's historic connection to the Commonwealth Games!

The display can be viewed by staff and students at the University of Glasgow Library (Level 12) on the Main Campus. Public visitors can also view the display via request. To find out more/request access, visit: https://lnkd.in/ecswAcDV

Welcome to the page for Supporting Scotland's Sporting Heritage, a The National Lottery Heritage Fund project running from 2026-2028.

We've got two great project officer and a partnership team behind the project:

Jeni Park is our Sporting Archives Surveying Officer and she will be implementing a national programme of surveying Scotland's sporting archive collections.

Alongside this surveying work, our Sporting Heritage Engagement Officer, Dr Levi Tippett will deliver a suite of public engagement activities.

The project is led by the The Ballast Trust working with the National Library of Scotland, Sporting Heritage and the University of Stirling.
