What an inspirational day yesterday!! Not only did we see the incredible spectacle of two men breaking the previously elusive 2 hour barrier for the marathon, with Sawe absolutely smashing the old world record, and Assefa beating her own all-women world record, but I saw inspirational performances from 4 of my favourite JLPTers!
Firstly, the superstar that is Cheraine Hagan completed her second marathon in 6 days! After a sub 4:26 at Boston on Monday she ran an incredible 4:58 at London. So impressive!!!
Wendy Ockrim approached her first marathon with gusto and 100% dedication, following the plan, listening to all the podcasts, and even becoming an ON ambassador along the way! She has impressed everyone with how well her running has progressed, and how she rose to the challenge of marathon training, despite doubting her life choices at times!!
Both Lou Mc and Lucy Stevenson Bass reached the start line against all odds (and probably any sensible advice). But they were both absolutely determined to be there to support their friend on her first ever marathon.
Lou was only given the go- ahead to run about 12 weeks ago after a nasty car accident. So she knuckled down and followed the shortest marathon training plan ever to get herself in a fit state to run. And Lucy battled and endured injury, lots of physio appointments and a considerable amount of pain during training to get herself there. They are both very strong, determined (some would say stubborn) ladies, and definitely not ones to let you down!
And yesterday, despite navigating different start venues and times, and the very warm conditions, they managed to support each other, and finish together!! An absolutely fantastic achievement from all of them!
You are a marathoner now Wendy - that is your superpower! Cheraine you are just an invincible nutter, and Lou and Lucy you are also nutters, and marathon queens!!
We were also thrilled to see Frimley Lodge parkrun Masters legend Koji Miyazaki running super fast, but sadly missed Hayley Willis, who also ran a great time, despite feeling terrible.
Congratulations to everyone running yesterday!!
