North District Finals 2026

Well that is another year gone by - my 11th as your District Secretary.

Girdle Toll BC - you excelled yesterday - an absolutely fantastic District Finals - you did yourselves proud.

The 4 Senior Finals were played in beautiful sunshine then a lovely tea provided by the ladies of the Club.

In the evening a full green meant a very busy Clubhouse. We were treated to some fabulous bowling and the spectators were well catered for from the bar. At the end another lovely tea was provided by the ladies.

To the Thank Yous - firstly Girdle Toll for hosting the District Finals, to Beith & Ardrossan BC's for hosting the Semi-Finals, to all other Clubs for hosting the ties, providing markers and Umpires.
To Wee Jimmy & Val for umpiring the Finals a great big Thanks.

To the greenkeeper big Jim your green was great.

To my President, Vice President, Secretary and fellow Directors thank you for your help and support.

I don't know how many more years I will continue as your District Secretary but to all my bowling friends (including you Dodger) Thanks for your support.

I have attached some pics including the scores from yesterday - all the best to the Winners when you go to Cumnock BC on Tuesday 14th July - Come on the North.

Well the day has arrived -
Our 4 Senior Finals start at 2pm
Then
Our 6 Main Competitions start at 6.30pm

Come along and support your Club players as they attempt to reach the Inter-District Semi-Finals on Tuesday 14th July at Cumnock BC.

It should be a great day and the bar will be open for refreshments.

NORTH DISTRICT FINALISTS

Well after the Semi-Finals yesterday we have our District Finalists who will now go to Girdle Toll BC on Wednesday 17th June - 2pm start for Seniors and 6.30pm start for the Main Competitions.

A snack with tea/coffee will be served after the games so please stay as Girdle Toll have put time and effort in to supply this.

The first draft of the District Finals programme is attached - please check spelling and if there are any changes to players please inform me ASAP.

Looking forward to some great Finals so come and support the players.

Seniors start at 2pm
Main Competitions at 6.30pm

Our Under 16's have been playing all their ties at Girdle Toll so there is one Semi-Final tonight between Ardeer v Kilwinning - the Winner will play West Kilbride in the Final.

So who will be in the District Finals - get along to one of the Clubs and give them your support.

Finalists will be posted tomorrow.

UPDATE - MY MISTAKE Silver Bowl was 1854 (Thanks to Dundonald BC)

Well today we have our first competition - the Gold & Silver Bowls.
Silver Bowl was first played for in 1854 and only 4 Clubs played in it. These were estate Clubs - Ardrossan, Dundonald, Irvine & Kilwinning.
The first winners were Irvine Bowling Club who later became Irvine Winton BC.
The Gold Bowl was added 3 years later - 1957 (same year as the Eglinton Jug).
This competition was for non estate Clubs in all of Ayrshire. After a bit of research I found that the first winners were Maybole BC - unfortunately although still in existence do not play in the Competition anymore.

So the scoring goes as follows - all the scores are added up - Estate Clubs and Non Estate Clubs - highest up on the winning side receives the Gold Bowl and highest up on the losing side receives the Silver Bowl.
The Clubs put out 2 rinks and play 21 ends - if due to inclement weather the games can't finish then 11 ends will constitute as the game played and result will count.
Weather not looking great at the moment but have a great day.

The 13th Earl of Eglinton and Winton presented these trophies and we have asked the current Earl who is the 19th Earl of Eglinton and 7th Earl of Winton to come along to our Finals Day in August to present these trophies to the winners.

Well yesterday didn't go our way with a 99 - 122 loss to Stirlingshire West - congratulations to them.
We now need to win our next 2 games.
The Team for the next game against Lanarkshire West @ Coatdyke BC, Coatbridge on Saturday 13th June will be posted later this week.

It was a slightly wetter afternoon than lately so our individual scoreboards need to dry out lol
