Huge congratulations to our greenkeeper, Kyle McClung, who led qualifying for the Scottish Men’s Open Championship at Prestwick St Nicholas GC.

Kyle produced a fantastic round of 65, finishing four under par.

The 13th hole at Western Gailes, unlucky for some, is a demanding 154-yard par 3 that requires precision. With water guarding the entire front of the green, any underhit approach is immediately punished.

The large green is well protected by four bunkers, while two subtle run-off areas at the rear mean even slightly overhit shots won’t hold. Finding the surface is one thing, but holding it is another.

Set against the stunning Ayrshire coastline, the hole offers breathtaking sea views. A brief distraction from what is undoubtedly one of the course’s most exacting short holes.
