A Matt Blake hat trick saw holders Leiston Town beat Felixstowe & Walton United 2 in the Suffolk Premier Cup at Portman Road. In wet rainy conditions Felixstowe put up a brave effort to recover from 3-0 down and nearly take the game to penalty kicks.

Town 3 Leeds United 2

Town finish the most miserable of seasons with a 3-2 win against promotion chasing Leeds United who had to settle for a place in the championship playoffs. Goals from Flynn Downes Andre Dozzell and Colin Quaner help Town to only their fifth victory of the campaign and the first time town have scored 3 goals in a home game this season. To little to late with fans wishing that bit of luck had come earlier in the season. With the score at 2- 2 Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe blazed a spot kick high over the bar that miss would surely have given Leeds the win. Town fans will have been encouraged yesterday by the form of Dozzell and Downes roll on next season.

Ipswich Town 1 Birmingham City 1

Ipswich fell behind to a Lucas Jutkiewicz goal after only 7 minutes and put in a pretty poor first half performance where they were lucky to find themselves only one goal down at the break. Town got off to a perfect start after the break from Gwion Edwards after a perfect cross from Kayden Jackson. Town hit the post when Alan Judge though he had opened his account for town. In the second half it was mainly town pressure but Jutkiewicz headed over for Birmingham on 78. Town will feel their had enough second half chances to get a victory which would have at least kept them in the championship for another week. Town drop to league 1 for the first time in 62 years 1957 the last time town played at that level.

Ipswich Town 1 Nottingham Forest 1

Town got off to a perfect start with German striker Quaner putting Town ahead after only 5 minutes but Forest then started to stamp their authority on the game and got level from a corner. Town completely dominated the second half and only a bit of bad luck with refereeing decisions and a lack of quality finishing cost the Town all 3 points .
Town played well enough to encourage fans that they could bounce back at the first time of asking from league 1 but it will depend on good recruitment from manager Paul Lambert and owner Marcus Evans for town to mount a promotion push.

Felixstowe & Walton United 1 Basildon United 0

In a game played in difficult conditions because of strong gusts of wind Felixstowe got an injury time winner to break down a stubborn visitors defence. The goal came from a corner and it was a messy goal but good rewards for the home side for a strong spell of second half pressure.
This result will keep the confidence high for this evenings game the semi final in the Suffolk Premier cup against Stowmarket Town with the chance to play in the final at Portman Road against Leiston or Ipswich Town under 18s

Ipswich Town 1 Reading 2 by Mark Gray

This was the same old story for Town in their worst season in the clubs history. Relegation now looks a certainty to league 1 for a club with such a proud history a club who has had 2 England Managers Sir Bobby Robson and Sir Alf Ramsey. Town scored an equalizer with 7 mins to go and hopes were high that Town might indeed go on to score a winner but it was not to be as Reading grabbed a goal with their only attack of the second half this just sums up our season.

Felixstowe & Walton United 1 Barking FC 1

After a taking an early lead through Miles Powell this was a game where the Seasiders should have gone in at half time with a second goal on the board. All credit to Barking for hanging in and making it a difficult second half for the home side. A draw seemed a fair result but the Felixstowe subs added a fresh spark in the last few minutes and the home side will feel it could have been won at the death.

Ipswich Town V Rotherham United Saturday 12th January 3PM.

Ipswich complete a scrappy win against 4 from bottom Rotherham United to maintain their slim hopes of staying in the championship this season. A goal on 30 minutes by new loan striker Will Keane was enough to sink the Milllers. The town goal was bombarded in the second half but town hung on to give themselves a chance of the great escape. Town travel to Blackburn Rovers on Saurday who are managed by ex town skipper Tony Mowbray.

Felixstowe Town Match Report – Jan 5th 2019

Felixstowe Town beat high flying Coggeshall Town on Saturday which many will see as an upset after a tight first half where Felixstowe rode their luck at times. Their came out in the 2 half to produce a polished performance with excellent defensive play and clinical finishing up front in a fine 3-0 win Felixstowe fans enjoyed this win in front of watching Coggeshall joint owner pop star Ollie Murs. Felixstowe will be hoping for as strong as possible finish in the table in the 2 half of the season.

Ipswich Town V Bristol City Match Report
Town will feel relegation to league 1 the old third division is a step closer after this latest defeat. Having twice taken the lead with 2 well taken goals by striker Freddie Sears town found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-2 score with goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski yet again not at his best being at fault for at least 1 of the goals despite man of the match performances from Sears and midfielder Cole Skuse to many town players went missing. Town went down 2-0 to Nottingham Forest on Saturday to make the task of staying up even harder.
