Bemsee round 7 race report!

Almost 2 weeks ago we headed to Cadwell Park for the second time this year.

With it being only 3 weeks since my crash at Donington we went into the weekend with the aim of taking it easy, seeing how I coped riding with a broken hand and picking up a few points where possible.

Friday morning I passed the medical tests and was declared fit to ride.😁 I Spun a few laps on the TZR in the afternoon and the hand was feeling pretty good. We then went to go out on the TZ for the first time since Donington but she didn’t want to turn over.😬Kieran Lewis, Paul Toland and Paul Lally were all hands on deck trying to find the issue, there were bits of TZ everywhere!😬

Saturday morning qualifying came and up first was Open 500, with no chance of the TZ being ready we swapped over to the TZR where we qualified 3rd overall and first in the 2T class.
Next up was YPM qualifying and after a fantastic track walk with Mike 'Spike' Edwards Motorcycle Racing on the Friday evening my plan was to get out first and wait for the fastest few to come past and grab a tow. The quality on this grid is always good but this round in particular had a lot of fast lads, previous race winners, champions etc which is fantastic for me to improve my riding! My plan worked well in qualifying firstly being passed by Mike and then with one lap to go Kev Wholey came past which turned out to be the perfect tow. Kev took pole on the last lap and clinging on behind I managed to pip Mike to P2 with a PB which I was really chuffed with. 1:41.662🔥

Race one came next for Open 500 but unfortunately the exhaust fl**ge cracked on the TZR putting an early end to my race 😢.Luckily Kev loaned me some parts to get the TZR back out and through the rest of the weekend, thank you mate and Congratulations Champ🏆

Between qualifying and race one in YPM I made a few suspension tweaks. We did a few more before race 2 and during the race realised that we were heading in completely the wrong direction. The results were okay considering, I brought home a 4th and 5th place which is respectable and points on the table but not where I wanted to be. Knowing where I was loosing time but not being able to fix it was frustrating, a phone call with the wizard Simon Cooper made me realise I was heading in the wrong direction with the bike set up and I was determined to do better on Sunday.

Whilst I was faffing around with the TZR the boys had put one hell of a shift in and had the TZ ready to roll😱Absolute legends!👊Changing machine and breaking down in race one meant starting from the back of the grid, despite this we still managed come away 2nd overall and P1 in the 2T engineering class👌

Sunday came and we did the double, 2 outright wins in Open500😎. In the second race not only did I beat my own lap record from earlier on in the year we managed to wrap up the Championship with 2 rounds to go, BOSH!🥇🏆

Unlike the Open500 races we were not lucky enough to miss the rain on the YPM, the first race of the day was declared wet after a heavy shower. A few lads risked it with drys but we chose wet tyres which paid off, the track was greasy and a lot of riders were caught out. I played it safe, took it easy and bought it home in P3🥉

Last YPM race of the weekend was probably my favourite, the suspension changes improved the bike and I felt a lot more comfortable. After race long battles with Richard Hayward, Mark Haigh and Mike Edward’s I bought it home in p3🥉0.3 behind Mike who did an incredible job after starting at the back of the grid.

From not knowing how I’d be able to perform to winning a championship, improving on my lap record and scoring decent points in YPM I certainly consider this weekend a success!

I say it a lot but thank you to Paul Whitby, I wouldn’t be out on the YPM grid without the use of his fantastic 2T tuned TZR which allows me to fight at the pointy end of the field.🤝And thank you to Kieran who got the bike sorted in such short time after my crash. Early on in the year, didn’t have the easiest time with the TZ but despite this didn’t give up! He’s put blood, sweat, tears and a little money 🫣 into this machine (I think Andy Ball put a few tears in at some points too😬🤣) and as a result we are now Champions🏆Thanks for everything mate👊

Snetterton next 5/6th September, where I’ll be back out on both bikes😎I’ll also be dodging dive bombs from an older, fatter, slightly slower Smith 👀. We Hope to see a lot of you there!🩵

Well Donington Park didn’t exactly go to plan!🫣Heres Haydons write up.

Just one day after Dad had his final X ray showing that his broken leg was pretty much good to go he jumped at the chance to get back out on track!
He reined it in for a change and took it steady, making some steps in the right direction in terms of suspension on the KR1s, cheers SITRAmoto!👊 Respectable 5th and 6th in the 2T engineering Open500 class.

Things were looking great in YPM, we spent some time on Friday again adjusting the TZR suspension set up and the bike felt good. Saturday morning I put it P3 on the grid in a lonely qualifying and was sure there was a lot more pace to come.

Andy Ball and Kieran Lewis had spent some time on the dyno and the TZ was an absolute rocket. At previous rounds the one thing I had struggled a little with the 3YL was a small hesitation and lack of drive lower down the rev range. Well the wizardry of Andy Ball sorted this and the bike felt unreal, in qualifying I put in a 1:16.4 on a busy track (enough for pole position) This was the fastest Open 500 time of the weekend and I knew I had more in the tank BUT as some of you will already know I managed to launch myself into space in typical gp250 highside fashion!🤦

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and maybe I should have listened to Dad and stuck that new rear tyre on rather than “use it for qualifying and see how it is” knowing full well it was at the end of its life. Lesson learnt, I was trying to skimp on tyres and save a few pennies to help fund the rest of the season but this resulted in a pretty scary crash with the rear letting go at 78MPH.
After a little sleep at the side of the track and an interesting couple of hours in hospital I was very lucky to walk alway from the crash with only concussion and a broken hand.

A massive thank you is needed to the Bemsee marshals and medics, an absolutely brilliant bunch of people who are THE BEST at what they do!

Thank you to Hideout Leather, the hospital staff could not believe how well the suit and airbag protected me. 78MPH highside and no injury’s at all from the areas in which this suit protects! I’ve really tested this suit over the past 2 and a half years and with a wipe down and new canister it’s ready to go again- best in the business without a doubt!🤩

Also thank you to Orwell Motorcycles Ltd who supplied my Nolan 803RS, what a piece of kit. To take a bang to the noggin this hard and just have concussion shows the true quality of this helmet. I have a new one on order already!👊

Dad decided not to race on the Sunday and obviously I was declared unfit. We move forward, learn from our mistakes and come back stronger. Thanks to all that make it possible, roll on Cadwell😎

Snetterton race report, I’ll keep it brief as it’s a bit late😬

We extended our championship lead in the 2T engineering Open 500 class with 2 wins and.2 second places, narrowly missing out on the top step to Bruce in Saturdays races.

In the Twistgrip Motorcycles YPM class I had no answers for Kev wholey who rode brilliantly as always even setting a new lap record (well done mate). I was pleased to take 3 2nd places. A little mistake in race 4 meant I crashed out of 2nd which was slightly frustrating, however I learnt a lot in this race which I believe will help me in the upcoming rounds and when we return to Snett in September.

Had the pleasure of a lot of friends coming to support at this round which was really nice. Thank you to Kieran Lewis and Paul Whitby who both allow me to use their quality bikes, Andy Ball for the help with the data on the TZ and everyone else who helps out whether it be advice, cheering me on at the sidelines or financial help. Big love to you all👊

🏁 Welcome to Bemsee Round 5 – Snetterton 300! 🏁

Good morning and welcome to another fantastic weekend of racing with the British Motorcycle Racing Club, the oldest motorcycle racing club in the world, here at the mighty Snetterton 300!

After yesterday’s scorching temperatures, we hope you’ve all managed to cool down, rehydrate and are ready for two days of incredible racing. As always, a huge thank you to our marshals, medics, officials, volunteers, MSV staff and everyone working behind the scenes to make this weekend possible. Please remember to give them a smile and a thank you whenever you get the chance—they’re the reason we can all go racing.

This weekend also marks a significant milestone. At the close of racing today we’ll officially reach the halfway point of the 2026 Bemsee season. It may feel like the championship battles are beginning to take shape, but don’t be fooled…

Across the various classes there are still between 375 and 500 championship points left to fight for. In other words, absolutely nothing has been decided. Every qualifying session, every race, every overtake and every point could prove crucial when the chequered flag falls on the season.

So whether you’re leading your championship, chasing down the front runners or simply out to enjoy the best club racing in the country, there’s everything to race for and nothing to hold back.

To our riders—ride hard, ride fair and look after each other.

To our spectators—find a good viewing spot, cheer loudly and enjoy some of the closest motorcycle racing you’ll see anywhere.

A lap record, race wins and a haul of podium positions.😮‍💨Here’s Haydon’s race report from round 4 at Cadwell Park.

My second ever weekend racing Kieran’s TZ 250 and I feel that we got myself and the bike dialed in closer to where we want to be. This was shown in our lap times and results as we come away with three wins🥇🥇🥇Narrowly missing out on a forth to Bruce Dunn on his beautiful 5KE which I have no shame in whatsoever, a quality rider and machine🥈. Alongside that we also managed to set a new lap record for the 2t engineering Open 500 class, 1:40.562😎

In the Twistgrip Motorcycles Yamaha Past Masters Racing Club class we managed our best results of the season so far🥳. Race one I finished in 2nd place, narrowly missing out on the win to Mark Haigh by just 0.043!
I was close in race 1 but managed to get the job done in race 2 where I took my first ever YPM race Win after some very close racing with Dave Ball, buzzing🥇! Straight on the phone to Paul Whitby after that one, an achievement I’m massively proud of and grateful to Paul for too!
Race 3, I lead the majority of this one but stupidly took my foot off the gas for the last couple of laps which cost me the win. Last lap at Mansfield I was overtaken by both Richard Hayward and Tom Ridley giving me no chance to fight back before the chequered flag. These lads stepped the pace up and caught me off guard, well ridden chaps thoroughly deserved. P3 for me🥉.
Some minor suspension tweaks for race 4 where I lead from Park on lap one to the chequered flag to take the win🥇I’d learnt from my mistakes in the previous race and was determined to take the win, putting in my quickest time on the last lap.

All in a massively positive weekend, again learning a lot and getting faster which is what it’s all about. Bring on Snetterton at the end of the month for my home round💪

Here’s a race report from Haydon after round 3 of the Bemsee championship at Donington Park Circuit 🏁

Again I was out in the 2T engineering Open 500 class but this time on board a bike I’ve always dreamed of riding! I can’t thank Kieran Lewis enough, not only for trusting me with his absolutely beautiful TZ250 3YL but for looking after the bike all weekend. Legend!

My first time riding a GP bike and it did not disappoint, slowly learning the bike throughout the weekend we made great progress and I lean’t a lot. A long with that we took 3 class wins🥇😮‍💨I’m pretty confident that it would have been 4/4 but unfortunately during a long stoppage I kept the bike running to keep it up to temp and in turn run out of fuel with half a lap to go in race 3🙄🤣

In the YPM class we we also kept good momentum and the points rolling in with 3x p3s🥉 and a P2🥈. Huge thank you to Paul Whitby for allowing me to use his TZR250 once again and also helping out to run the bike. It’s great to see Paul recovering so well after his off at Brands earlier on in the year!

Huge Thanks to Andy Ball (2t engineering) for always being on the end of the phone, helping with the Data on the TZ and having a lot of input into both the TZ and TZR, such different but fantastic machines. Also for the spot price in Open 500, it’s always a nice surprise to receive a spot price!

Kev Wholey and Anthony Johnson for taking time out of their own busy race weekends to help me out getting to grips with the TZ. A couple of top, top guys🫡

Big Dave for a new rear tyre for the TZ and to Bob Collins of FWR Tyres for suppling the 160 v02, it worked a treat👌

Tom Bedford a hero on the tyre machine, Nick Smith for everything (which doesn’t require two legs) and Leah Bowman for keeping us all fed and water’d❤️

This post may just seem like I’m rambling on thanking people but if I’m honest I wouldn’t be out there without the support and help from the people around me right now, I am so grateful to have such supportive friends and family🫵🥰
