Hey there, fellow dog lovers! 🐶💕 Did you know that when you pull on your pup's lead, it might actually encourage them to pull even more? This little trick is called the Oppositional Reflex, and your furry friend might think you're just playing a game! 🎉 Instead of tugging, let’s try a fun approach with positive reinforcement! 🎊 Reward your dog with yummy treats or heaps of praise whenever they walk calmly beside you. You can also explore techniques like ‘rewind’ or using a front-clip harness—both can help without making your pup uncomfortable. Remember, a little patience and consistency go a long way! The goal is to have a delightful walk together, so let's turn those tugs into smooth strolls! 🐾✨

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme

(GCDS) is a fantastic way to enhance your dog's training and social skills. Here are some key benefits:

1. **Training Foundation**: Starting with the Puppy Foundation level, you'll lay a strong groundwork for basic commands and good behavior. It’s essential for puppies to learn how to be well-mannered!

2. **Socialization Skills**: Each level encourages positive interactions with other dogs and people, minimizing the chances of behavioral issues later on.

3. **Bonding Time**: Training sessions create a deeper bond between you and your pooch, making every moment spent together more enjoyable.

4. **Confidence Boost**: Completing each level boosts your dog's confidence, setting them up for success in various environments.

5. **Responsible Ownership**: It teaches owners about responsible pet ownership, ensuring that dogs are well-cared for and happy.

6. **Recognition**: Graduating levels allows you to show off your dog’s achievements with certificates, which is such a fun way to celebrate your hard work together! Getting involved in the GCDS is a win-win for both you and your furry friend! 🐾✨

When it comes to dog training don't believe everything you read, see or hear! It is common practice for all of us to follow and believe anything that the media pushes. That includes T.V! Journalism is not always correct and media although often well intentioned are usually not specialists in the reported subject. This is why it is important to only seek advise from trained and qualified professionals! Take for instance dog behaviour and training. Often called "obedience training" (though not by us!) Much of the information out there is based upon correcting a behaviour without knowing what the dogs emotions are feeling at the time. You wouldn't say "Shut up!" angrily to a young child who is simply saying "Mummy I'm scared" would you?
So don't do the same to your puppy or adult dog. To quote a recent wonderfull post of "Facebook"
"Until we start listening to behaviour as communication we will continue treating the symptoms while missing the suffering underneath them.

Disengagement square. An amazing and fun game that builds your dogs ability to disengage from life. Ie: The Squirrel, The other dog, the person, etc etc.The more you can help your dog develop this skill the easier it will be to build a really good recall and nice loose lead walking!
