Game of two halves, which was an enjoyable watch with some good football from both teams. We were unlucky not to take the lead in the first minute when some good hold-up play from Mads played in Emmy whose shot was pushed past the post by the keeper. Not much between the teams in the first half but poor communication at the back and failing to close down allowed Grampian to go into a three goal lead at half-time.

We jigged things around at half-time which had an immediate effect on the game with Lucy and Emmy becoming much more involved. Freya swung in a corner from the right which sailed through to Lucy at the back post to slam home. Within a couple of minutes Lucy dribbled into the box and outpaced her defender who brought her down. Isla stepped up and hit a well struck pen into the corner to pull another goal back. Girls were playing at a much better tempo and causing Grampian problems, with Mads unlucky with a couple of chances. Grampian then went further ahead from a corner before Lily saved well when a Grampian player broke through the defence. She managed to get an important touch to push the shot past the post. Mads was then rewarded with her persistence when Rachael won the ball at right back and Emmy played a smart through ball into her. She beat her defender and struck a powerful shot which the keeper got a touch to but couldn't keep out. Mads almost nicked the equaliser when she beat the last defender and took the ball past the keeper but just ran out of pitch and fell over the hockey goal at the back of the pitch much to her amusement 🤣. Thankfully she was ok!

Great second half performance from the girls who showed real grit to pull themselves back into the game.
Defence was much improved in the second half and worked better as a unit. Carly's positional play was excellent, always in the right place at the right time to make crucial tackles. Lucy was a menace in the second half. Scored a great goal and won the penalty.
Player of the day - Mads. Unselfish player who took her goal well, worked hard both going forward and defending from the front and unlucky not to score a couple more.
Unfortunately, we say goodbye to Carly and Olivia, who leave us after today to move on to new challenges. All the best to a couple of great girls who have given their all at Colony over the past few years, they will be missed by the coaches and players.
