MACLEAN (Nairn)
Peacefully, at Southside Nursing Home, Inverness, on Thursday, 7th May 2026, Donald MacLean (Don) of Laing Gardens, Nairn, aged 76 years. A beloved husband of Lee, a much-loved father of Don and Mike, a caring father-in-law, a devoted grandad of Cassie, a sadly missed brother and friend to many. Funeral service at Inverness Crematorium on Thursday, 28th May at 11.00am. All friends respectfully invited. Wearing darts shirts would be appreciated. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu, if desired, may be given at the service to Munlochy Animal Aid.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Inverness and Nairn darts stalwart Don Maclean.

A hugely respected figure throughout the Highland darts community, Don dedicated decades to the sport and achieved success at both local and national level. He was crowned Scottish Singles Champion in 1985 and famously won the Inverness Singles title four years in a row during the early 1990s — an achievement that cemented his place among the finest players of his generation.

In 1992, alongside Eric and Barry, Don proudly won the Sunday Post Scottish Threes title. He also had the honour of representing Scotland on four occasions, something he was immensely proud of.

Throughout his darts career, Don played for a number of well-known local teams including Stratton, Portland, Vic Nairn, Westerlea Nairn and Clach Club, earning respect and friendship everywhere he played. Don was part of the first league in Inverness when founded in the 1970s.

Above all, Don was a devoted father to Michael and Don Jr Maclean who currently play in the Inverness league.

The thoughts of the entire darts community are with Michael, Don Jr and all of Don’s family and friends at this sad time.

Rest in peace, Don.
