Following the track action in London last night we had others in lacing up today in races a world apart.

Robin Regan has had plenty success since his move north over cross country and on the roads. Today he went back to his roots on the mighty Slioch Horseshoe Hill Race. This is an AL category hill race that traverses through rough, pathless mountain terrain.
Robin took an early lead on the first climb and he managed to marginally hold onto it on the steeper sections. Once the more runnable parts came he took full advantage of his road based fitness to extend his lead and win by around 5mins in 2 hours 5mins.

Kate Mactear also contested this epic hill race and completed the event in style in just over 3 hours despite taking time to photograph the amazing views ๐Ÿ™Œ (photo attached in post)

Former well known Inverness Harrier and coach Graham Laing took to the roads for the Laguna Phuket half marathon in Thailand this morning. Graham who is well known for his 5th place finish at London marathon in 1981 still has the hunger to race and came home in position 214 overall and 3rd in the 70 age category.

Well done to all! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ”ฅ LONDON 5000 ๐Ÿ”ฅ

We had 3 of our top club performers donning their spikes at a premier track event in London last night. The New Balance London 5000 hosted a full day of seeded races with wave lights and pacemakers provided.

Andrew Baird contested the U20 3000m and bravely took hold of the race when the pacer dropped out around 1k. After doing the majority of the work for a long spell to keep the front few on pace he was out-kicked for 4th place but rewarded with a new PB of 8mins 18sec. This is even more remarkable given that he has had no track to train on since renovations began and he was just 3secs away from an age group European qualification time. ๐Ÿ’ช

In the womenโ€™s A race Megan Keith lined up for her second race of the week following on from her lightning fast diamond league 3000m on Wednesday. The pacemaker didnโ€™t last long so Megan ended up on a long solo effort well ahead of the rest of the field. She maintained a solid tempo and finished with a seasons best of 14:49 and a win of over 38secs.

In the final event of the day, the menโ€™s A race, second claim Angus Smith was up against some top level competition including an Olympian. He made a dig with 5 laps to go but none of the 3rd group followed. Angus showed grit and toughed it out for PB of 14:08 and in doing so he caught some of the 2nd group on the final lap.

Athletes were accompanied by their coach Ross Cairns who also made the long trip south for support.

Well done to everyone! ๐Ÿ‘

Massive thank you to the coaches for preparing the athletes for this competition and to families for supporting the travel, it was a busy 2 days for Highland athletes.
Due to a lot of variation in wind assisted times through the day these have not been included, however lots of excellent times the athletes should be proud of.

SCOTTISH RECORD FOR MEGAN ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Megan Keith was in record breaking form tonight at the Diamond League 3000m in Oslo. She clicked off the 67 second laps to break the Scottish record which has stood since 1988. Her time of 8:28:35 also puts her 3rd in the UK all time only 6sec off Paula Radcliffes British record.

What an incredible year from Megan already with plenty exciting racing still to come from her this summer. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Congratulations to Megan and coach Ross Cairns from everyone at the club. ๐Ÿ‘

THE 3 PEAKING ๐Ÿ”ฅ

We had 3 athletes from the club lacing up in very different locations around the UK this weekend. ๐Ÿƒ ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Close to home Norman Ferguson took on the Golspie 3 peaks race and had a very strong run to take 2nd place overall. The race covers 13 miles of running across three iconic peaks in East Sutherland: Ben Horn, Ben Bhraggie and Silver Rock. โ›ฐ๏ธ

Helen Leigh travelled to the Scottish Borders for the Durisdeer hill race which is a Scottish hill running championship counter event. Still recovering for her English 3 peaks victory 3 weeks ago Helen impressively came through for 5th place in 2 hours 2mins on a tough course. ๐Ÿ’ช

Julie Wilson travelled further south by plane to hit the roads of Manchester over the classic 10k distance. Julie had a solid run to finish with an excellent time of 42:30. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Congrats to all 3 who are showing the benefit of regular club night attendance with Ross Cairns endurance group. ๐Ÿ”ฅ
