Inverness Cathedral Bellringers

Inverness Cathedral Bellringers We are a band of enthusiastic bellringers from Inverness and the surrounding area.

We had ten local ringers for service ringing this morning πŸ˜ƒ We rang the back four up in pairs, and then the front six in peal.
To start we rang some rounds and call changes on all ten bells to queens and kings and back, and then rang some Plain Bob Doubles on the back six, with the front four bells constantly ringing in the order 1,3,2,4. This enables us to ring all ten bells with ringers involved that have not yet leant methods.
We finished with some more rounds and call changes to rollercoaster and back, and then rang the front six, and back four, down in peal.
Some good ringing again this morning, well done everyone πŸ₯°πŸ””

There were seven of us this evening for our improvers practice, including a visiting ringer from Somerset.
We started by ringing up bells 2 - 6 in peal. We rang them down and up again for the practice.
We quickly raised the treble and then I called some rounds and call changes to queens and kings and back from outside the circle.
We then rang some plain courses of Grandsire doubles, and then some more rounds and call changes.
We next rang some plain hunt on five bells with a tenor cover, and then some more rounds and call changes.
We finished with some more rounds, and then lowered the bells in peal.
We finished slightly early this evening and all went for a hot drink at the Palace.
Well done everyone πŸ₯°πŸ””
Note to self - I need to print out some laminated sheets with calls written on for next time I have to lead call changes!

This week’s report from Inverness Cathedral is from Cath P: β€œThere were 7 this morning so rang up back 8. left out the 5th and did call changes. rang front 4 down then back 4. It was really good. 6 of us went for a cuppa including Rachel's Mike. A good morning πŸ‘β€
I (Rachel) was in Devon and rang for service at Bishopsteignton and Teignmouth with my Dad (who is 87) which was very special πŸ₯°πŸ””

Despite a few people being away we had 9 ringers for our advanced practice tonight and a Canadian visitor at the end too.
We rang up the front 6 in peal fairly well, then rang up the back bells in pairs. First was Kent TB Minor for Michael and then plain courses of Stedman Triples. More Stedman Triples followed with folk moved to different bells.. a bit more successful this time. Brian called a touch of Grandsire Triples and then we had two more courses of Stedman Triples. We attempted a touch of Stedman Triples which was going ok until Hugh caught his glasses with the rope 😳 A Canadian bell ringer then arrived and Nick explained how we ring (a somewhat different technique to our visitor) and we ran a course of Grandsire Triples to demonstrate "change ringing" (which is what we do) and then rang down 8 in peal. Our visitor was invited to try the treble at the end.

A very warm and muggy night in the tower tonight but the Stedman Triples is definitely improving 😁 Well done everyone πŸ₯°

There were twelve of us for service ringing this morning! Our number was boosted by three visiting ringers from Salford, Southwark Cathedral and Lancashire.
We rang the back four bells up in pairs, and then the front six in peal (very well).
We rang some rounds and call changes on ten to queens and kings and back. We had a swop around and rang plain hunt on seven with a tenor cover on the back and two bells ringing constantly at the front to enable more ringers to catch hold.
We had another swop around and rang some more call changes to roller coaster and back.
We lowered the front six, and then the back four, down in peal (again, very well).
It was busy around the Cathedral for the Race for Life, so it was lovely to have all ten bells ringing for the service and for the crowds.
Well done everyone, some good ringing again πŸ₯°πŸ””

We only had 6 ringers for our improvers practice this evening, but hopefully it was a useful practice nevertheless.
Grace rang up the treble and then the two. We then rang up 3-6 in peal. Plain courses of Plain Bob Doubles was next with Grace inside and then plain hunt on 6 with Alex on the treble. Michael had mentioned Union Bob Doubles so we rang 3 courses of that and then a 120 of Plain Bob Doubles with Grace inside, but unaffected. We rang some plain hunt on 5 for Alex and then some rather rough plain courses of St Simon's Bob Doubles for SamC. We finished with 10 mins of call changes (half of the Devon "60 on thirds") and then having dropped the treble Michael led 5 of us down in peal.

Well done everyone.. it was warm up the tower, but not as unbearable as it will likely be in the next few months.

There were eight of us for service ringing, and a visiting relative from Canada.
We rang up the back four bells in pairs, and then the front four in peal.
We rang some rounds and call changes on the back eight, being gently corrected in our striking where necessary by Nick. We rang queens, kings, whittingtons, titums, and rollercoaster.
We finished by ringing the front four, and then the back four, down in peal.
Some really nice ringing today - well done everyone! πŸ₯°πŸ””

This evening we had 10 locals and one visiting ringer from France. After ringing up the back bells in pairs and then the front bells (2-6 in peal, and the treble on its own) we rang some rounds on the front 6 for Sandrine (who learnt to ring in Gloucester, but is out of practice). Next was a plain course and a 120 of Plain Bob Doubles for Barbara. After some rounds on 8 we rang a touch of Plain Bob Triples. That was followed by a course of Inverness Major (1st attempt failed but we were successful the 2nd time). We rang plain hunt on 9 and then some rounds on 6. Two successful courses of Inverness Major were followed by a course of Plain Bob Caters (we last rang a local quarter peal of that when Ted Venn was alive)! Little Bob Major was next (2 courses) and then another course of Plain Bob Caters. We ended with some more rounds and then down on 8.

It was great to see a few locals who are back from holidays/uni and we definitely stretched ourselves tonight.. very well done everyone πŸ₯°

There were six of us this morning for service ringing, so we rang the front 6 bells.
We rang up the bells in peal, followed by 3 plain courses of plain Bob doubles. This was followed by some rounds and call changes on 6 to Queens, Kings and Titums, and then after a short breather we rang a shorter burst of rounds and call changes.
We finished by ringing down in peal.
Well done everyone πŸ””
