Another excellent week, with the buzzer hatches increasing. Although it’s been chilly most days, dries, buzzers and nymphs have been devastating. A lot of anglers in the 15-25 bracket, and a few regulars hitting the high 30’s. CDC shuttlecock best, although Alasdair, Jonny and Keith had 39, 37, and 37 on grunter.

All three lochs fishing well.

Well done to all anglers today at the Scottish Bank team semi-final. The conditions were howling from the start, but everyone fished hard and adapted as the day went on, and it finally went flat calm during the afternoon session.

244 trout landed by 22 anglers for a rod average of 11.09

(Two anglers didn’t bother to turn up for the semi which is a shame as I’m sure the guys next on the qualifying list would have loved to have had the chance)

Top 12 anglers go through to the final:

Stephen Cowan 21 fish 28 points
Stewart Inglis 20 fish 28 points
Mark Kelman 17 fish 24 points
Peter Cowie 17 fish 24 points
Gavin Shearer 15 fish 24 points
Steve Plank 16 fish 23 points
Ian Scott 15 fish 22 points
Alan Paterson 11 fish 18 points
Ian Lyndsay 10 fish 18 points
Graham Baird 12 fish 17 points
John Johnstone 12 fish 17 points
Colin Sharp 9 fish 16 points.

It’s been fishing so well the last few weeks now the temperatures have risen and the buzzers have begun, just a shame the wind and cold put a spanner in the works today, but still excellent returns considering.

Staying cold at night all this week, but daytime temperatures are 15-17 which should really get the surface activity going.

And last but certainly not least, a big thank you to all the volunteers today. Without anglers giving up their time to marshal and help out Stillwater semi’s and finals would struggle to work. Much appreciated as always! πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Unfortunately it’s going to be a howler today for the Scottish Stillwater semi-final with gusts approaching 50mph, and temperatures just above zero. (The wind may drop in the afternoon)

Conditions will be the same for everyone, so let’s see who can adapt. Good luck to all competitors, and thank you to the marshals for helping out.

I would be on intermediate with a 10’ leader and single damsel, minkie or apps to start, then move to midge tip or hover with Fab/cormorants/nymphs/buzzers if the wind drops in the afternoon. (Indicator may work, shimmer worm or cat-bug at 4’)

No eggs or blobs under an indicator.

We could do with a few more marshalls this Sunday for the Scottish Stillwater Championship semi final.

Any extra volunteers to mark the anglers cards between 9:30 and 4:30 would be hugely appreciated, and it’s also a great chance to observe and learn from some of Scotlands best Stillwater competitors.

Apologies for the lack of reports, I’ve had a lot going on. It’s not been stocked for over 2 weeks, but it’s still bouncing and the buzzers are making an appearance too. A lot of anglers in the 15-30 bracket the last few days, with Jack Howie top rod with 34.
(9 doubles over the last week too)

Staying coldish overnight for the next week, but there should still be plenty on top as each day goes on.

Usual methods: dries, washing line, damsel, minkie and apps, and more intermittently indicator with shimmer worms and cat bug.

Chris and Ally on the nymphs, buzzers and dries, they ended up with 22 between them.
Nice to see the Grunter working well despite the cold.

Only 12 anglers in today and most had 4’s to 7’s bar, although we did have one blank. The afternoon seemed to switch off a bit, but it came back on as the Sun dipped.

A bit more ice than expected but there’s still plenty open. Chris Skivington is doing best so far with 7 on a mixture of dries and nymphs.

The ice has gone now with last night’s breeze, and it’s a balmy 6 degrees this morning.
