What a fantastic day at Inverleith Hockey Under 12s Development Tournament, our first ever competitive fixture outside of the Borders.

We started our group stage with steady wins over Watsons and Inverleith. A challenging final group stage match against Erskine Stewart's Melville resulted in a draw. They pipped us to top spot on goal difference, meaning that they entered the Cup semi-final and we entered the Plate semi-final.

A strong and professional semi-final victory against Grange set us up for the Plate final against Hillhead from Glasgow. It was a fiercely contested game, with us growing more dominant as the game went on. The teams couldn't be split in regular time, so we went to extra time. We couldn't quite get the winning goal against some valiant Hillhead defending, and the trophy ended up being shared.

Some really solid play from all of our P6 players who looked very much at home against the bigger and well established clubs. Another fine contribution from our P4 players who stepped up to fill in.

Superb from our U12 Hockey team, very well done!!

Well done Kazya.

Well done Kazya.

Bonnyrigg Rose's Kazya Stevens was named Player of the Match in the ScottishPower National League Cup Final. Her quick feet and composure on the ball frustrated opponents Dryburgh Athletic and created so much for her side in equal measure. She collected her award from Karen Bambrick from ScottishPower's partnerships team.

Match reports for the girls Teams who were playing games on Sunday 17th May.

u14s
The u14 girls had two games last week.

On Wednesday night they had a rea+-arranged game away to Cramond.

The Girls battled hard to secure a 2-1 win against a strong and determined Cramond side in difficult conditions. Playing on a wide, recently cut wet grass pitch made for a tiring game, and the girls initially struggled to adapt after playing their previous match on 3G.

Leithen Vale managed to take an early 1-0 lead through a fortunate goal, but the game quickly became a real test. Throughout the first half, the girls lacked urgency in the fight for the ball, something the Cramond team showed in abundance. Their energy and pressure made life difficult and eventually led to a deserved equaliser.

After a half-time pep talk and a couple of positional changes, the girls came back onto the pitch with a much stronger attitude. Communication improved, the passing became sharper, and some excellent linked-up play created more attacking opportunities. Their hard work paid off with a well-earned second goal.

Cramond continued to press for the remainder of the match, making it a very busy second half for our goalkeeper. Thankfully, with strong defensive support and determined defending across the back line, the girls managed to prevent an equaliser.

It was a battle right until the final whistle and another fantastic game for the spectators to watch — although probably a little more stressful for the coaches on the sidelines!

On Sunday 17th the girls played another away game against Boroughmuir.

The Girls put in a determined and hard-working performance against Boroughmuir Thistle 2013 Jags, battling their way to a well-earned 1-0 victory. It was a very tight and evenly matched game throughout, with both teams creating plenty of chances and both goalkeepers being kept busy with some excellent saves at either end.

With a few girls playing out of their usual positions and no substitutes available, the squad had to dig deep, especially towards the end of the match when tired legs began to show. The effort and commitment from every player was outstanding.

It was great to see the eagerness return in the girls’ desire to win the ball back, and the communication between players improved massively as the game went on, particularly in the second half. The team worked hard together and made it very difficult for Thistle to break through at any stage of the match.

A brilliant team performance and another great result for the girls

Their next league game is a Home game on Sunday 31st, against Broxburn Athletic Colts.

u12s
The girls were supposed to be playing a home game against Dalkeith on Sunday 18th, but unfortunately Dalkeith didn't have enough players to field a team.

We decided to have an extra training session so that the girls didn't miss out. We tried some new training exercises which the girls seemed to enjoy. We then finished off with two 5-aside games against each other.

What a performance from the girls today. They won each of their 3 games against Bonnyrigg.

Their next league game is at away on Sunday 24th, against Dalkeith Community FC Thistle.

u10s
The u10 Girls were playing away at Bonnyrig on Sunday 17th.

The girls got off to a slow start in the first 15 minute period, found it hard to get into our rhythm. Some calamitous defending and decision making from the girls lead to Bonnyrigg scoring goals. However we managed to get a goal back right at the end with a fine corner in which Ava made her presence felt and bundled the ball in off the keeper. This goal gave the girls something to build on.

2nd period of the match the girls were now starting to get into there rhythm, passing out from the back into midfield and having a real go at Bonnyrigg. Goals coming from Ava, Mhairi and Fearne. Bonnyrigg managed to claw a goal back with some good football from themselves which let our girls know that they were still in a game.

3rd period the girls were now in the zone, every one now switched on, early chances coming for Mhairi and Isobel which Brought great saves from the Bonnyrigg keeper.

Bonnyrigg still looking dangerous on the attack but Ella and Lily-Mae were having none of it. Half way through this period is where the decisive goal came from, some nice play in the middle of the pitch from Fearne then played a through ball into Ava's path for her to calmly slot it into the bottom right hand corner.

Could and probably should have scored more in this half with some fantastic set plays coming from our corners.
Great to see a clean sheet in this period with Mollie making a couple of saves and the whole team working there socks off.

Player of the match went to Fearne this week. Her overall play was fantastic, but the most pleasing thing was her set pieces, her deliveries for our corners was causing Bonnyrigg all sorts of problems.

Another strong performance from the girls. They should be buzzing after that game.

Their next league game is at Home against Boroughmuir Jags on Sunday 24th.

If any girls would like to join in any of the age groups, come along to training to see if you like it and join us, please get in touch.

The u14, u12 & u10 girls were playing football on Sunday 10th May.

u14s
The girls were playing a away against Currie FC.

The girls put in a fantastic performance, earning a hard-fought 2–2 draw against a very well-matched Currie FC side. It was an excellent game for spectators to watch, with both teams showing great determination, energy, and quality throughout the match.

Leithen Vale started strongly and deservedly took a 1–0 lead in the first half after creating several chances and dominating shots on target. Despite the attacking pressure, they were repeatedly denied by an outstanding Currie goalkeeper who made a number of impressive saves to keep her team in the game.

Currie came back strongly after the break and managed to equalise early in the second half. As the game wore on, the girls began to tire, and Currie took the lead through a fortunate looping effort that sailed over both the defenders and the goalkeeper.

To their credit, our Leithen Vale girls never gave up. Straight from the restart, they showed real determination, resilience, and excellent teamwork to push forward again, quickly finding a well-deserved second goal to level the match at 2–2.

A brilliant team performance full of effort, positivity, and fighting spirit against strong opposition.

Their next league game is a re-arranged mid-week fixture away to Crammond on Wednesday 13th. Then another game away on Sunday 17th, against Boroughmuir Thistle.

u12s
The girls were playing a home game against Bonnyrigg Rose.

What a performance from the girls today. They won each of their 3 games against Bonnyrigg.

There were goals for Lucy, Esme, Charlotte, Vivien and Ellis.

As well as the success up front, there was also a strong defence, with Aria, Ruby, Vivien and Esme, preventing Bonnyrigg from scoring any goals.

The girls did really well adapting to a new formation that we tried this week. We think it helped with their performance, so we'll keep it for future weeks.

It was good to see the different things we do in training making there way into the game. There was some great defence-splitting passes, crosses from wide, and applying pressure to the opposition when we were out of possession.

There are a few more things we'll practice in training in the coming weeks.

Well done girls. Keep up the great work.

Their next league game is at home on Sunday 17th, against Dalkeith Community FC Thistle.

u10s
The u10 Girls were playing away at Bathgate.

The first 15 minute period was end to end football being played at a hectic pace. When our girls started to relax we played some great football and could of possibly scored a few goals if we would stop being a bit shot shy.

The second 15 minute period was more of the same but we somehow lost 3 goals in this period - from some great play by Bathgate. First goal was a 18 yard bullet. The Second was a breakaway goal in which we were attacking. The 3rd goal came from a shot that mollie saved well but then we didn't react quickly enough and there striker nipped in and scored.

The third 15 minutes we played some fantastic football, breaking the Bathgate press and getting up the pitch with real pace. After some great play Violet went on to score her first goal for the club, a nice neat finish into the bottom corner. This period was still end to end stuff and on reflection we should of scored more goals in this period.

Big shout out to all the girls this morning, they should be proud of themselves. They put in a great performance and never gave in and battled to the final whistle.

Player of the match went to Eden. An all round great performance, composed on the ball, great when needing to tackle, good work rate and probably should of scored a couple of goals.

We managed to keep 2 clean sheets which shows how hard all the girls worked.

Their next league game is away to Bonnyrigg on Sunday 17th.

If any girls would like to join in any of the age groups, come along to training to see if you like it and join us, please get in touch.

The u12 & u10 girls were playing football this weekend. The u14s and u8s had a weekend off.

u14s
The girls had a weekend off, but their next league game is on Sunday 3rd May away to Crammond.

u12s
The girls were playing a home game against Currie FC.

It was great to see the girls back in action today after the Easter holidays. Back on the grass pitch at Victoria Park. We were also welcoming Charlotte and Indie for their first game with the Team - both of them did great for their first time playing with us.

We played three hard fought games against a good team in Currie FC. Our girls grew in confidence with each game they played. Towards the end of the 2nd game and in the 3rd game, the girls were playing some great football. With good runs up the wing and moving the ball well - making sure that Currie weren't getting everything their own way.

In the last two games we came so close to scoring goals with all the hard work and pressure we were applying. Ellis, Esme & Lucy all came close. As did Charlotte who was unlucky not to score on her debut in the Team.

There were also great displays at the back from Aria, Ruby, Vivien and Esme. With some last ditch defending with lung-busting runs to get back to stop Currie when they broke with the ball.

All the Girls should take confidence from their display today. Learn from what went well, plus some things that can be improved upon, and practice these things in training.

Well done girls. Keep up the good work.

Their next league game is at home on Sunday 17th, against Dalkeith Community FC Thistle.

u10s
The u10 Girls have had a very busy weekend, playing on both Saturday and Sunda

On Saturday 25th, the girls were in attendance at the Ballcraft tournament in a very sunny Edinburgh. These are a great opportunity to play different opposition to our league game.

The first game was against Dunfermline Athletic, we got off to a fast start and continued this effort throughout the game, all that was lacking was a goal.

The heat was already taking its toll and a rotated squad narrowly missed out against Wishaw Wycombe. Four further games followed resulting in a win and a draw.

Plenty of game time for the girls and another medal to add to their collection.

If anyone wants to join the squad we’re due to attend another tournament at the end of May.

After the efforts of Saturday the girls again headed back to through to Edinburgh to face Spartans at Wardie in the first Division A fixture.

We welcomed Violet to her first match for the team after impressing in training.

Vale got off to a strong start matching their experienced opponents in all areas of the work. It took a long range effort to break the deadlock for Spartans.

The second period got off to a great start with Ava breaking through and slotting away for, what turned out to be, our only goal of the day.

The rest of the game was one way traffic from a very impressive team.

It was a tough day out but these are the games and levels that we want to be playing at. There’s still plenty to work on at training and at home for the remaining games.

There was strong performances from Lily-Mae and Ella at the back along with Mollie making some magnificent saves to keep the score down. The Player of the day was Remy, worked her socks off in the centre of the park covering every blade of grass to help her team mates out.

The u10s next game is a league game at home to Crammond Flames on Sunday 3rd May. It would be great to have folks attend to cheer on the girls.

u8s
The girls didn't have a game on Sunday.

If any girls would like to join in any of the age groups, come along to training to see if you like it and join us, please get in touch.
