For the second weekend in succession, the Owls managed to field an impressive four teams.

The 1s continued their solid start to the season with a four wicket win at Great Baddow, leaving them third in division 5, only five points behind leaders Rayleigh Fairview.

The 2s welcomed a powerful Ilford Catholics side to Willowbrook and were comfortably beaten by 137 runs, leaving them seventh in the table.

The Mighty 3s fell to a 67 run defeat to Horndon on the Hill at Lake Meadows, but the Sunday Owls rounded things off on a brighter note with an unprecedented 9 wicket home win against a sporting Nazeing Common XI.

Notable Saturday knocks were Russ' 62, Jon A's 54, Aarav's 46, Albert's 38, Ricky's 72 and returning Owl Rob H's PB of 62. Top wicket takers were father and son Matt and Dec with three apiece.

Sunday wickets were shared around with champage moments Cam's top of off stump dismissal of the visiting opener (for 74), and Edith's first wicket in adult cricket - a tricky drive to mid off grabbed by big brother Albert as dad Rob looked on.

Resilient batting in the timed game came from Adi (50*), Aarav (43), Shriv (36*) and an inaugural half century from Rob L (51*), swatting the cherry around like a man possessed. Rob's heroics saw St Johns chase down 207 with seven overs to spare.

This busy weekend of action came as a relief after the damp start to flaming June - here's hoping for bright sunshine and lots of cricket next weekend as we welcome more GCSE and A level finishers back into the fold.

Your owls for this Saturday are here! The 1s look to continue their good start to the season with Captain Fantastic Sam back in the team, the 2s take on Ilford Catholic 3s at home and the Mighty 3s play Horndon on the Hill at Lake Meadows.

The sun will be shining tomorrow so make sure to get down and support the Owls - the bar will be open.

In addition, the Sunday Owls welcome old friends Nazeing Common to CM4 this weekend in what promises to be an exciting match-up.

The game sees the club's first ever brother / sister / father combo, the Longlades, making their Willowbrook bow after turning out in last week's narrow Sunday defeat at Writtle.

Close matches for our league teams this weekend, as the 1s won a nailbiting local derby at St Andrews by a single wicket, while the 2s fell agonisingly short despite a valiant performance against table-topping Writtle, losing by 12 runs at Willowbrook.

Darren was in the runs again, notching 82, while Stuart hit an exciting 77 and Matt a whirlwind 45. Jerry not only bagged 4 wickets but also got the 1s over the line, despite batting injured at no. 11, with a couple of l***y blows to the boundary. Jon F contiuned his rich vein of early season form with another four-fer and there was an inaugural Owls wicket for Tony.

The Mighty 3s returned to Stambridge to face Rankin's and, despite classy knocks from Dave and Justin, the latter registering his first six in adult cricket, and impressive bowling spells from Alex and John E, were comfortably beaten by a sporting home side.

A special mention for John E who bowled his first balls on grass, having spent winter nets "unlearning" baseball pitching and getting the hang of delivering with a straight arm. He didn't get the success his effort deserved, but carry on like this and wickets will come.

A couple of pictures today of training drills in session three of the Sunday morning All Stars and Dynamos programme, as the youngsters continue to improve their skills. It's the best time of the week at St Johns!
