This weekend’s teams are here!

In the final weekend of the season, the 1s host Beaulieu Park to finish off their strong season post promotion. The 2s travel to Horndon on the Hill as they look to stay in division 8. The mighty 3s are back in action yet again against West Mersea. We finally have a sunday fixture, this time against Hornchurch Athletic.

Yet another scorcher in store this weekend - why not pop to Willowbrook and treat yourself to a refreshing drink as you cheer on St Johns.

Here are your teams for tomorrow's matches... the 1s travel to HOTH 1s looking to complete the game (unlike the reverse fixture which was abandoned for rain - remember that stuff?), and the 2s welcome OC 4s to CM4, keen to return to winning ways.

It was a run-fest on Saturday, with 786 scored in total across our three teams (surely an Owls record). Only the 1s were able to secure victory, however, beating AGHAB 2s by 66, with the seconds losing by 7 wickets to Chignal 1s and the Mighty 3s by 57 to Belhus 5s.

Raghav led the way with the bat, racking up a phenomemnal 101; not only his first ever century for St Johns, but also the first batter to reach three figures for the club in 2026. Other notable innings were Jamie Wa's inaugural league half century, a measured knock of 70*, Darren's 67, Matt's 61 and Steve C's whirlwind 59*.

While the prolonged dry spell has resulted in dream conditions for the batters, it's meant tough work for the bowlers. Our top wicket takers this weekend were Stuart and Tony with two apiece.

Another mixed set of results this Satuday, with a 92 run home defeat to Rayleigh Fairview for a youthful 1s team, but wins for the 2s by 4 wickets at South Loughton and the 3s by 68 runs at old friends West Mersea.

Amazingly all ten first team opposition wickets were taken by our teenagers (including a debut "2 for Drew", naturally), but the visitors' score of 221 was never seriously under threat despite a battling 39 from Ian.

Matt was the weekend's top run maker with 56 for the 2s, ably assisted by Vik whose captain's innings (43*) saw the team home.

Twins Ethan and Lewis led from the front for the Mighty 3s, the former smashing a classy 46 on a tricky pitch and the latter claiming three middle order wickets to tee up victory. Special thanks this week to Galleywood and Boreham CCs for lending players to Mersea in order to get the game on.

Just one picture today - the Mersea and St Johns teams form a pre match guard of honour in celebration of the life of Sir Garfield Sobers, the greatest all-rounder the sport has ever known.

Another tough Saturday to be an Owl with defeat for the 1s at Rettendon by 29 runs, the 2s v Broomfield by 7 wickets and the Mighty 3s by 28 runs at Rankin's.

Top batting performances came from Jon A (80*) Anil (63) and Pramod, returning from a nasty hand injury, (55*).

Wickets were shared around, with a special mention this week for Declan whose tight six over spell featured his inaugural league scalp. The first of many.

Sunday saw the annual celebration of cricket at St Johns that is President's day, featuring bouncy castles, burgers, Brazilian refreshments and lots of cricket.

In the morning the All Stars and Dynamos topped off an enjoyable summer programme with games on the hallowed turf.

The main event took place after the lunch break as we held a three team round robin tournament, with the Magpies, ably captained by Adam, proving victorious.

Massive thanks to LB, Holly and the cabin crew for keeping everyone fed and watered on such a blistering day.
