Ilminster County League Season – What a Season
With all five Ilminster teams now having completed their county league matches, it’s time to look back on a fantastic season of bowls.
Across the season, over 90 bowlers represented Ilminster, with around 60 men taking to the greens every week across our five teams.
Ilminster A – Premier 1
A 5th-place finish in Premier 1 capped off a season of incredibly close results. There were plenty of matches that could have gone either way, and a couple of wins instead of narrow 2- or 3-shot defeats could have seen the A team challenging right at the top of the league. A very competitive season and plenty to build on next year!
Ilminster B – Premier 2
After dropping down from Premier 1 last season, it was always going to be a challenging year. A number of early-season defeats left the team looking over their shoulders at the battle to stay in the division. But what a finish! Four wins from their final four matches secured Premier 2 safety in style. A brilliant response from the team, and they’ll be looking to come back stronger next season.
Ilminster C
Another season full of close results against many of the local teams saw the C team hold their own around mid-table for much of the season. Once again, the team spirit has been excellent, and there is plenty of optimism that they can come back next year ready to challenge further up the table.
Ilminster D & E – South West 2
Both teams enjoyed a great season of competitive and, most importantly, fun bowls. These teams have been particularly important in giving many of our newer and developing bowlers valuable experience of county league competition.
The experience gained this year will hopefully provide a strong foundation for the seasons ahead, with plenty of exciting players continuing to develop.
A huge thank you to every single bowler who represented Ilminster this season, as well as the captains, selectors and everyone behind the scenes who helped make five teams possible.
Five teams. Over 90 bowlers. Around 60 players every week.
