⚽️🎊 HAPPY 01st SEPTEMBER!!!!! 🎊⚽️

Last month ITYFC has successfully:

✅ Registered 402 youth members ranging from Age 3 - 18

✅ Submitted 23 teams to their relevant leagues

✅ Had final approval for our new pitch layout, enabling us to host all of our teams in a safe and timely fashion across the grounds of Ilminster

✅ Marked the majority of the above pitches

✅ Received our football foundation grant to help us buy new goals which will be delivered this week!

✅ Bought, checked & distributed 23 brand new first aid kits

🔵 For anyone involved in the ‘behind the scenes’ running of a youth sports club will know it’s not just the things you can list on paper…
It’s the endless meetings, phone calls, emails & messages, the days spent volunteering, the nights agonising over the tiny details that keep our members safe, happy & healthy.

🔵 These 4 don’t like to be posted often!!
But they are the current driving force behind our club and boy, are you lucky to have them!

🔵 Every minute of their spare time over the last few months has been ploughed into ensuring our youth have the best possible experience for upcoming season whilst playing grassroots football within our club.

🔵 We can’t promise you’re all going to get a restful September 😂 but we massively appreciate the phenomenal amount of your own time you give to us!

ILMINSTER, SOMERSET — 20 August 2026 — With the support and assistance of Apex Soccer Group, Ilminster Town Youth Football Club is celebrating a major boost to its grassroots facilities following the announcement of a successful grant application from the Football Foundation to fund a range of brand-new, modern goalposts.

The funding arrives at a landmark moment for the club, following a surge in youth registration over the summer and the ongoing expansion of its junior teams. The new equipment directly supports the club’s development plan, bringing its pitches into full alignment with The FA’s new Future Fit framework—an initiative designed to optimise pitch sizes, improve age-appropriate player development, and elevate matchday experiences for young footballers.

Meeting Unprecedented Youth Growth
Following an active summer of community outreach and taster sessions at The Archie Gooch Pavilion, Ilminster Town Youth has seen record numbers of boys and girls signing up across all age groups.

The grant from the Football Foundation—the Premier League, The FA, and the Government’s charity that delivers outstanding grassroots facilities—will enable the club to replace outdated equipment with lightweight, FA-compliant goalposts tailored to mini-soccer, 9v9, and 11v11 formats.

Aligning with FA 'Future Fit' Standards
The FA’s Future Fit strategy emphasises flexible pitch sizing and modern facility infrastructure to maximise ball touches, player engagement, and physical safety for developing players. By installing state-of-the-art equipment ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, Ilminster Town Youth ensures its young players benefit from best-in-class coaching and playing conditions.

"We are absolutely thrilled to receive this grant from the Football Foundation. The growth we’ve seen in our youth section over the summer has been extraordinary, but with more young players joining, having the right equipment and pitch setups is essential.

"Aligning with The FA’s Future Fit vision allows us to offer safe, professional, and age-appropriate environments for every child who puts on an Ilminster shirt. This funding is a huge vote of confidence in our coaches, volunteers, and the vibrant community we are building here in Ilminster."

Investing in the Future of Grassroots Sport
The new goalposts will be installed immediately and will be in full service for the start of the 2026/27 junior league fixtures, supporting hundreds of local children each weekend.

At Ilminster Town Youth FC, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority, and Claire plays a vital role in ensuring our club is a safe, welcoming and inclusive place for everyone.

❓What is safeguarding?

Safeguarding is about protecting children and young people from harm, promoting their welfare, and making sure they can enjoy football in a safe, positive environment where they feel respected, listened to and supported.

Claire’s role includes:

⚽ Being the club’s first point of contact for any welfare or safeguarding concerns.

⚽ Supporting players, parents, coaches and volunteers with safeguarding advice and guidance.

⚽ Ensuring the club follows The FA’s safeguarding policies and procedures.

⚽ Promoting a positive, inclusive and respectful club culture.

⚽ Helping ensure all volunteers have the appropriate safeguarding training, DBS checks, First Aid and coaching qualifications where required.

⚽ Working closely with Somerset FA and relevant agencies when safeguarding concerns need to be reported or supported.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

If you ever have a concern about the welfare of a child or young person at our club, please don’t hesitate to speak to Claire. No concern is too small if it helps keep our players safe.

We had a fantastic day taking part in the Active Ilminster Day organised by Ilminster Town Council

We had the pleasure of meeting some truly wonderful children and adults and it’s fair to say that even when the heavens opened (finally), they smiled through the rain!

We couldn’t have done it without our incredible helpers and club children who helped us set up, pack away and most importantly - help the residents of Ilminster get active!
