This week we hosted Beckfoot/Bingley A team. They are third in the division and we were expecting a tough match.
We played well and just lost 3.5 to 5.5 - well done to everyone who played and better luck next time !!
Well done to Sandy, Simon Murgatroyd,Dave J and Tisane (who kindly agreed to play as a late stand-in and I hope she enjoyed it); Julia and Steve B.

Its been a bit quiet on this page for a couple of weeks - I'll blame the weather for this !
We have had a few games recently and, against the teams at the top of the division, we played well but we lost.
Last night, we played away to Pudsey A and we won 7-2. A resounding win for Maxine and Steve, Julia and Dave J, Michelle and Steve B - well done team.
Our next match is against Beckfoot/Bingley A who are third so this will be a stern and hopefully enjoyable challenge !

This week we travelled out of Wharfedale into Airedale and clearly the different atmosphere and conditions did not suit our team who were just pipped at the post by a stronger Cross Hill team. We lost 5.5 to 3.5 with 3 draws - a point or 2 either way in each match could have made it 7 to 2 to them or 5 to 4 to us; such are the dramatic differences in close matches a few points make.

Well done to our team for a good match - I understand the banana cake was very nice but I suspect not too much of a consolation.

Sadly no photo this week and a loss - maybe there is a connection here !

Our next match is Grove Hill A away on 23/6...

A win, a photo, smiles, and a nice supper without rain or wind - what more could a winning tennis team want ?!
Well done to Sandy (missing from the photo), Simon, Maxine, Dave j, Sally and Steve = a great win over Gargrave A, 6 rubbers to 3. This was actually a a good strong win over a strong Gargrave team and Steve and Sally won two final tie breaks !

Away to Bingley / Beckfoot last night and clearly we did not travel well, whilst we won 3 rubbers we lost twice as many so overall lost 6-3. Bingley / Beckfoot are a good team, well done them !
Next Tuesday we are at home to Gargrave A and I wish us well next week.

Our first home match was played last night against Pudsey A, and, against my predictions of a marginal improvement in my last update, we made a significant improvement and won by 9 rubbers to 0 !
Brilliant performance from the team and finished off with a nice chilli, well done to all of them - Carol Cherry, Kevin Johnson, Rik Smith, Sandy Lightowler, Michelle Eldridge, Dave Jones.
Our next match is against Beckfoot / Bingley away and Carol will be Captain again.

We played Heaton A away in Heaton (strangely enough) on Wednesday evening. We expected a tough match as they came second in the first division last year and we got a tough match
This time we lost 7.5 to 1.5 and, with my optimistic hat on, we have made a 50% improvement compared to the previous match. If we continue this rate of improvement then we get our first victory in 3 matches time - we will then be unbeatable !

Monday night saw our first match of the season - we played the mighty Ilkley A team and, after losing the first 8 rubbers we triumphed and won the final one - overall, clearly a loss and being positive I like to view this as being unbeaten at the end.

Well done to Harriett and Steve for grasping this small victory from the jaws of defeat ...

The 2016 WTL season starts - tonight I went to the Wharfedale Tennis League kick-off meeting. I now have the fixtures (the first match is May 2nd vs Ilkley A Away, the first round draw for the Molly Fawcett (we got Heaton C), the date of the end of year social (Friday October 14), and the date for the Wharfedale Invitational (26/3).

Final match report of the season - 2 losses on the run ! One to Ilkley C and the other to Austwick B. Not a great end but we were still able to end the season as divisional champions - well done to everyone who played this year...

The first photo shows the state of the light at the end of the last point of the last game of the last math of the season. The second photo shows the team still smiling after the loss to Austwick. Nonetheless I'd like to welcome Dave Jones and Krisztina to the team.

We managed to beat Tranmere B on Tuesday night 6.5 to 2.5 - a good result against a strong team. Lots of nice tennis and and good banter, a pleasant evening overall…
