🚴‍♀️ What an unforgettable five days! 🚴‍♂️

Nine members of Ilkley Cycling Club completed the 290-mile Jo Cox Way Cycle Ride from Batley to Westminster, honouring Jo Cox's inspiring belief that "we have more in common than that which divides us." Seven of our riders were taking on the challenge for the first time, conquering nearly 15,000 feet of climbing before an unforgettable finish at Westminster.

Together, team Ilkley raised over £3,700 for the Jo Cox Foundation. A huge thank you to our sponsors, volunteers and supporters—your generosity and encouragement made every mile worthwhile.

What an amazing performance by Doug Hart and Chris Murray during the RTTC National 24 Hour Championship, smashing the Mixed Tandem British record with a final distance of 483.52 miles (778.15km). They were riding a JD Tandem bike.

This weekend saw two former ICC youths riding in the Lloyds National Road Championships: Alex Beldon (left in the first picture) in his French team jersey, Mayanne-Mobana-Rapido, and Louis Herring (right in the second picture) in his Prologue Race Team kit.

Both riders were pulled from the race, with only 39 finishing out of 179 starters. Pulling riders is common practice on city/town circuits, based on commissaires' decisions and circuit conditions.

Talking to Louis afterwards, he said he was happy to watch the end of the race, recognising this was a big step up for him. The photo of Louis is from the Colne Grand Prix, where he came third as a Youth A. Louis will be riding in the Lister Horsfall Open Grand Prix Race on Friday for Prologue, and his older brother Jasper will be in Ilkley kit in the Bini Brew Open Classic 2/3/4 Race.

Unfortunately, Alex won't be racing at Ilkley, as he is heading to a training camp as his career moves into exciting times. In the picture, you can see Joe Turnbull, his little buddy, after a roller racing competition. Joe will be racing on Friday for his team, Moonglu Spatzwear, in the Bini Brew Open Classic 2/3/4 Race.

We have more riders to shout for: Harry Rugg (third picture) in the Under 16s MAS Design Race, and Renan Petersen-Wagner, Daniel Sharp, and James Ford in the Andy’s Open Masters (40+) Race. Thomas Nabb will be riding for Otley Race Team — he was with us from being a little lad and still comes out on club rides on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings.

It looks like it's going to be a cracking night — get cheering!

Congratulations to Freya Whiteside on her performance in the Irish Women's National Road Race yesterday. It was a highly competitive field featuring riders from World Tour teams including UAE Team ADQ, Lidl-Trek, EF Education-Oatly, Team Picnic PostNL, and Liv AlUla Jayco — so finishing just 30 seconds off the winner is a brilliant result. Freya placed 11th overall and 6th in the U23 category.

Freya started out with the club as a youngster and has gone on to balance her love of cycling with a university degree. She rides under Irish nationality through her dad Andrew, and is the current Irish Cyclocross Elite Champion. She'll also be on the start line of the Milly Grace Jewellery Women's Grand Prix Race (The Ilkley Cycle Races) — we'll be cheering her on!

Well done, Freya! 🚴‍♀️

Another great showing by Kath Lyons as she continues to support the Jo Cox Foundation in a 295 mile sportive over 5 days. The bike ride is to honour the memory of MP Jo Cox. It has been running for 10 years.

Kath is one of the club's octogenarians, she started cycling in her mid 60s and joined the club when she was ready to go further and harder. This is Kath's 5th ride and she will be joined by other club members: Sally Black (previous chair), Debbie Harrison (kit officer) and her husband Paul, Alex Edwards, Diane Brooks, Diane Anderson, Judith Metcalfe, Liz and Linda. The group have come together to have a communal giving page, managed by Sally.

ICC B3 ish Monday Ride Blog - Fleet Moss in 31°C Madness ☀️☀️

What a scorcher for a late May B.H. Monday. 31 degrees, barely a cloud, and the BH crew decided that suffering was the only logical way to spend it. Route choice? Fleet Moss!

Phew.

The temperature was already sitting at 30°C in the valley, and as soon as we hit the climb it felt like the air stopped moving. No shade, no mercy. The road just goes up and up and you can feel every degree of climbing and the heat rising heat in your legs & lungs. That’s Fleet Moss for you – beautiful brutal, exposed but there's nothing like it which is why we do it!

We regrouped at the summit, red faces, bursting lungs and the promise of one of the best descents around.

Burnsall on the way back was a different kind of challenge. Grid lock. Proper standstill, grid lock. Cars, taxis, ice cream vans, campervans – all tangled up and nobody moving an inch.

Once we were were clear of all the chaos it's pretty easy ride home although one of us (me) needed a helping little push up a couple of hills to stop me dropping behind! Great team work & the 'hand of Chris' was very welcome 🤗.

Brilliant day out, great end of ride beer stop, fabulous group and very happy to have climbed Fleet Moss once again.
