Subject: BDCA AGM - Tuesday 2nd June at Owlet Hall

Please find attached the agenda for this year's AGM. This will be held at Owlet Hall, starting at 7.30.

Anyone who has played in any BDCA competition this season can attend and vote.

We have had one proposal for a change of rules submitted, which is for each team to have two tied players. The full wording can be found in the agenda.

There are a number of vacancies for committee members. Please consider if you can do any of these roles, and encourage members of your club to take this on. The secretary role could easily be split between the admin side and the running the league side. The committee has been meeting 4 times each year, usually on Teams, so there is less time commitment in terms of attending meetings than previously.

I look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

On the same night the B team finished their season with a 2.5-1.5 home win against Saltaire Fanny's. A win for Trevor, then draws for Bill, Robert and Hasu on his club debut.

This result means we finish as runners up in Division 2 having been promoted from the third division last season!

17/05/2026

On May 5th Ilkley A played their final BDCA league match of the season at home to South Bradford B. It ended 2-2. Gerard played brilliantly to crush Paul Solomons, with a tough loss for John and a bad loss for Lee. The other board was defaulted by South Bradford.

This result sees the A team finish a respectable third in the first division, albeit a long way behind the top two teams.

25/04/2026

Both Ilkley sides were in league action on 14/4.

The A team match was over by nine o'clock! Gabor and Ihor agreed a draw in what could still have been a tense queenless middlegame, Gerard played a nice tactic to win a piece and his game. As Lee had already had won the default, Mark and Chris Bak agreed the draw and therefore we won the match. This result secures the A team in the first division for next season.

The B team faced upto Saltaire Musketeers, at home. They were stronger on each board. Captain & board 3 Robert won within the hour after winning first the exchange, then threatening to win a piece. Matt returning from illness on board 4 played well, before losing the exchange, then the game slipped away. The top 2 boards carried on into the depths of the evening. John Cleland, on board 2, in time trouble won a 4 pawn versus 3 pawn endgame. Leaving our top board, William, to win as his opponent made a mistake in time trouble. So a 3-1 win which saw Ilkley B reclaim second place in division 2 and be in promotion trouble with one match to play.

30/03/2026

Both Ilkley teams were in BDCA action on 24/3.

Ilkley A hosted Undercliffe A. We got off to a bad start when something went horribly wrong in Gabor's game. Gerard, who was feeling unwell, then took a draw. We had promising positions in the 2 remaining games, which both went the distance, with Lee and Mark managing to convert in mutual time pressure to give us a much needed match victory inching the team towards safety in division 1.

The B team travelled over the moor to Bingley and Keighley Knights in a 2nd vs 3rd place clash. Out graded on every board we put on a brave fight but lost. B and K Knights now leapfrog us into second place. So the B team inches towards safety too!

23/03/2026

Both Ilkley teams were in Hepolite Cup action on the 17th.

The A team had a very tough match against South Bradford A. Gabor fought bravely on board 1 but succumbed in both matches to Phil Watson. Mark played two marathon games against Mark Crowther and may have had wins in both of them, although they were both extremely challenging under extreme time pressure. Unfortunately, our Mark ended up on the losing side of both matches. Lee took a reasonably quick win against Peter Rooney in the first game, before being outplayed in the second. So a pretty disappointing 1-5 in the end.

The Ilkley B played a stronger S.Bradford B team, and lost by the closest margins. We were black first leg, then white 2nd leg, in this rapid play match.
1. G.Goulsa (1805) 0.5:0.5 Robert (1661) 0.5:05.
2. K.khan (1745). 0.5:0 Bill (1631) 0.5:1
3. N.Mullan (1453) 1:1 Richard (1472) 0:0.
Result 3 5 - 2.5

16/03/2026

On the 10th of March the B team were at home to Bingley and Keighley. Well player to our returning players, with John Link getting a draw on top board and Patrick a win after a long match on board 2. John Cleland and Richard also won on board 3 & 4.

the A team travelled to South Bradford A and unfortunately lost 3.5-0.5 against a very strong team. Highlight of the evening was a very creditable draw by David against a significantly higher rated player.
