Over the weekend, Gil Riley Equine Vets were proud to support the renowned Church Wilne Rotary Club Charity Ride. The weather was just right, and everyone had a lovely time taking advantage of the opportunity to ride across private farmland.
A big thank you goes out to everyone who volunteered their free time to run the event.
Lots of money was raised for 3 very worthwhile causes, Air Ambulance, Derby Mountain Rescue and Treetops Hospice Care.
It was great to meet lots of new owners and hand out treats for riders and horses!

Woodpecker Stables is looking for a super part time groom to join our friendly team.
You will receive full training and support to help you learn the ropes looking after our lovely livery horses.
Your typical day will include feeding, rugging (after trying to second guess what freak weather conditions may be met!), turning out, mucking out all shavings beds, poo picking, hays, feeds, waters and taking pride in maintaining a tidy yard.
We have 11 horses on site and our livery owners are just as nice as their horses and very much appreciate the high standard of care we put into our day-to-day jobs.
You will need to be able to drive, be competent handling horses, have experience looking after them and have a sense of humour, be a smiley, honest, hard-working kind of person. You will ideally live within a 25-minute commute to us (DE7 4PL).
The job is for employed or self-employed with a contract.
Days= Saturdays and some Sundays and some weekdays to cover holidays if available.
Hours=7am-11am ish, 2pm-4pm
Hourly pay=age 17-20 years £8.00, over 21 years £9.50 per hour. Self employed by negotiation, to start April

Sunday 7am-11am, 2-4pm. One Sunday a month off if required.

General yard duties. Lovely horses, yard and atmosphere, never rains 🤣🤣 well almost never!!

Must have experience, driving with own car huge advantage due to our location, full training given.

I am looking for a super enthusiastic, reliable and dedicated yard groom.

Woodpecker Stables is a small, friendly and professional full livery yard, based in Dale Abbey owned and run by Emma Whiston-Riley BHS Stage 4 Senior Coach.

Our cheery and hardworking team of staff pride themselves on maintaining a high standard of stable management whatever the weather, all year round. This has enabled us to cherry pick the loveliest clients who own the nicest horses!

Do you think you might fit in...?

Job description: Member of yard staff (either employed or self-employed)
General yard duties (feeding, rug changing, turning out/bringing in, mucking out shavings bed, making up nets and feeds).

Days/hours:
weekends 7am-11am, 2pm-4pm
At least one weekend a month off. Some week days may be available if required.

Hours are flexible depending on work load, work hours are recorded and paid accordingly.

Pay:
To be discussed depending on age and experience

Start date:
January 2020
Full training given, 3 month trial, all Heath and safety, insured etc.

Little jockey required!
We are looking for a jockey to ride Dennis, our much loved 13.1hh 21yr old super dressage schoolmaster.
He will stay on full livery at his home in Dale Abbey (very friendly, small yard with great facilities).
He is hopelessly outgrown so looking for a rider under 7stone and 5 ft. (can be novice/ first horse owner, willing to learn)
Dennis is a master at dressage and knows all the tricks and flicks so is happy to show the ropes from intro to elementary. He also does jump up to 55cm. He is fantastic on the road, very kind to handle and loves cuddles and lots of pampering!
3/4 times a week riding, happy to do shows.
He has a full wardrobe, tack and all insurance etc.
Contribution towards upkeep.

A busy weekend at WP....
Yesterday we had a soggy but successful day at Beaver Hall. Dennis strutted his stuff helping the school team to come 3rd in the prelim and a pleasing 5th in the novice against some tough competition. The little old man can still move like Jagger!

Today, Ty had his maiden dressage outing bringing home a first from Broomfield 🥇🏆🏅🏇Winner winner chicken dinner time!
Daisy was also fantastic coming 3rd ! 🥉🎖🏆
Clever ponies!
Bru has been out arena eventing and enjoyed a successful round at 95cm.
Errol has been off training , Livi popped Brian in the school and Jessy has been for a relaxing sunshine hack in the woods!
