England Youth Fly Fishing

The England Youth Fly Fishing Team will be competing in Ireland this July, representing England on the international stage and gaining invaluable experience in the sport we are passionate about.

To help support the team with travel, accommodation, and competition costs, we are currently raising funds and seeking support from individuals and businesses who would like to be part of our journey.

Every contribution, large or small, helps our young anglers focus on competing and making England proud. Thank you for supporting the next generation of fly fishers!

We are so grateful for the support guys, to those who donated prizes Airflo Fishing Flyfishing Bulldog John Harris, those who helped out on the day Bristol Reservoirs Fly Fishers Association and Bristol Water Fisheries for donating all fishing fees to the youth team, and finally those anglers who fished.

The Barrow Bash- 29th March, to support the England Youth Fly Fishing Team- We are proud to announce that we have 3 of our very own local lads selected in the team with Will Wellman as Captain. BUT without our support the whole thing falls apart So we need you to come and support this bank match.

Bristol Water Fisheries are donating ALL the fishing fees to this, Airflo are putting the Prizes up for it now we just need you guys to come along.

Ladybower 28/2/26

The England Youth meet at Ladybower Reservoir was a brilliant weekend for the squad. A big thanks to Craig Barr and Rob Langford for hosting and organising everything so well. It was great to get everyone together again in such an awesome place. It’s great to see so many new faces throughout the squad and to see them socialising and getting along with the existing squad.

The weather was definitely on the cold side, with the wind being particularly spiteful on the hands. Even with the conditions, the fishing was good, which made it all worthwhile. Most of the fish were caught on bo***es and blobs on di3 and di5 lines fished with a slow figure-8 retrieve. Others seemed to be able to catch a few on bigger lures fished fast. It was encouraging to see strong communication between the boats on the water to make sure everyone was on the fish and had the best chance to catch a few.

A massive thank you as well to the fishery staff at Ladybower. They looked after us all weekend and made sure everything ran smoothly, which we really appreciate.

This squad weekend was particularly important as it was the weekend where the England team was announced for the 2026 home international in Ireland. With this in mind, coming off the water on the Saturday was very exciting.

The squad consists of a 14-person team with 2 reserves. The 14-person team and the 2 reserves will compete on the day of the international, with the reserves being in their own competition with prizes and rewards.

Congratulations to everyone who has qualified. Looking forward to working as a team on the run-up to Ireland and in Ireland at the international.

Overall, it was a really positive meet. Team bonding is getting very strong and can always get stronger. I believe the team selected has so much potential in Ireland to challenge for gold and stop Ireland’s run of gold in their own back garden.

Big thanks again to the team at Ladybower for providing a great quality of fish and fishing. And again, thanks to Craig and Rob for organising the meet; it couldn’t have been done without you both.

When team member Jesse and his family approached Bristol Water and his local club, Bristol Reservoir Fly Fishing Association (BRFFA), to ask if they would support England Youth Team fundraising and our 2026 international trip to Ireland 🇮🇪 they were blown away by the incredible response.

BRFFA are incredibly proud to be hosting The Barrow Bash, a fun, friendly bankside catch & release fly-fishing competition at Barrow Tanks, and we’re even prouder of why we’re doing it.

Jessie Gale and his family approached the club and asked if we could help raise some money for the team ...of course we can!

Thanks to the exceptional generosity of Bristol Water Fisheries, Bristol Water are taking ZERO lake fees for this competition, meaning that 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the England Youth Fly Fishing (EYFF) team.

Representing your country at a national level is an amazing opportunity for young anglers — but it comes at a huge personal cost. Travel, training, equipment, and competition fees quickly add up, and without support, many talented young people simply wouldn’t be able to take part.

This event is about more than fishing.
It’s about backing the next generation, opening doors, and showing that fly fishing is a sport with a future — one that’s inclusive, exciting, and worth investing in.

It’s a true testament to the commitment of Bristol Water Fisheries and BRFFA to:
