Post match wrap up from the team managers.
ENGLAND YOUTH LOCH STYLE FLY FISHING – IRELAND 2026.
Proud doesn’t quite cover it…..The final cast has been made, the rods are packed away and another Home International is over.
But what this squad has achieved goes far beyond the results.
Competing for England at a Home International is relentless. Long days, early starts, demanding conditions, tired bodies and aching limbs. There is nowhere to hide and no easy session.
And yet, throughout every minute of international week, the hard work and commitment from every single member of the squad has been immense.
They have worked for each other. They have shared knowledge, flies, tactics and encouragement. They have picked each other up when things haven’t gone their way and celebrated together when they have.
Most importantly, they have never stopped being a team.
Watching this group grow closer throughout the week has been one of the greatest highlights. Seeing confidence develop, trust build and our new caps welcomed so warmly into the squad has been incredibly special.
The match result may not have delivered in the way we wanted. But sport isn’t always about getting the result you hoped for. Sometimes the toughest days teach you the most.
We will review, reflect. Refine and improve, and we will come back stronger.
Every one of our young England anglers should hold their heads high. They represented England with dedication, resilience, courage and real class. I am immensely proud of every single one of them.
A huge thank you to our Irish hosts for the incredible welcome and hospitality throughout the week. The friendship between all teams is what makes these Home Internationals so special.
Thank you to every boatman who worked tirelessly to support our anglers in the best way possible and shared their knowledge and experience with us.
And a massive thank you to the hotel team for looking after us and providing a home for the squad throughout a demanding week.
Also, thank to the parents, and supporters who have backed these young anglers every step of the way — thank you. Your support makes more of a difference than you probably realise.
But perhaps the greatest achievement of this international week cannot be measured in fish.
It is the comradeship, the friendships, the trust the memories and the experiences that these young anglers will carry with them long after the fishing rods have been put away.
To the 2026 England squad:
✔️You wore the shirt.
✔️You represented your country.
✔️You stood together.
✔️You gave everything.
✔️You did yourselves, your parents, coaches , friends and family proud.
This chapter may be over, but the journey towards the 2027 International has already begun.
