Ilfracombe Golf Club

Ilfracombe Golf Club See the sea from every tee! It is a contest, a duel or a melee, calling for courage, skill, strategy and self-control.

THE SPIRIT OF GOLF
Found in a scrap book cutting from the Ilfracombe Chronicle dated 21st August 1922
‘Golf is a science – the study of a lifetime – in which you may exhaust yourself but never your subject. It is a test of temper, a trial of honour, a revealer of character. It affords the chance to play the man and act the gentleman. It means going into God’s out-of-doors, getting close to nature,

fresh air, an exercise – a sweeping away of mental cobwebs, genuine recreation of the tired tissues. It is a cure for care, an antidote to worry. It includes companionship with friends, social in*******se, opportunities for courtesy, kindness and generosity to an opponent. It promotes not only physical health but moral force.’

Barbara Sheldon presented a cheque to North Devon Hospice last week, representing the impressive £750 she raised during her year as Lady Captain.

It’s a brilliant amount to have raised, well done Barbara and the Ladies’ section!

Jack Smallridge hit a hole in one today on the Quarry during our Bank Holiday Stableford.

The course has seen temperatures of over 30° this afternoon, but clearly the heat didn’t affected his aim!

Congratulations Jack!

A most enjoyable, friendly and competitive NDL Greensomes (High Handicap) match was played on Sunday away on the Saunton East course.

Saunton won 3-0 but we certainly gave them a 'run for their money' with one match going up the 19th. We now drop into the NDL Greensomes (High Handicap) plate.
Thank you to Etienne Erasmus,
Steve Floyde, Gary Willis, Pip Hooley and
Rob Pearson for representing the club.
Picture Saunton Greens and the team.

Cheers

Ilfracombe vets lost 4 1/2 to 1/ 1/2 at Sidmouth in a friendly on Thursday.

Despite the loss the course was lovely and the sun came out eventually.

Chris Ley and Jeremy Huggins were fined £1 for missing the team photo!

The Vets are looking forward to reversing the result at Ilfracombe on July 10th.

The Vets played their Emerton Court away match at Thurlestone on Monday. Though they lost to a very strong Thurlestone team 3-2, having won the home leg 5-0, they won the round overall with a score of 7-3. They will play either Exeter or Sidmouth in the next round.

Congratulations to the team, as well as the reserves Steve Parsons and Pip Hooley, who also won their match 2&1.
