One of our favourite drills is swimming side by side and matching each other’s stroke rate.
Not only does it help you become more aware of your own rhythm and timing, but it also encourages smoother, more consistent swimming. You’ll often find yourself naturally settling into a more efficient pace and maintaining better focus throughout the swim.
It’s a great skill for open water too, where swimming alongside others can help with confidence, pacing and group swimming awareness.
Sometimes the best way to improve isn’t by swimming harder, it’s by learning to move in harmony with the water and those around you. 🌊💙

Yesterday’s Sea Knowledge & Practice session at Rappery Cove had a bit of everything 🌊☀️
A playful swell, plenty of bounce, sunshine, smiles and a sense of adventure from start to finish.
We kept things safe, enjoyed a great swim, and spent time talking about the benefits of swimming in swell, learning to work with the sea rather than against it, and how timing your stroke with the movement of the waves can make swimming feel smoother, more efficient and a lot more fun.
Every condition offers an opportunity to learn, and yesterday was a great reminder that the sea is one of our best teachers.

🌊 Happy World Oceans Day 🌊

Today we’re taking a moment to reflect on just how grateful we are for the ocean.
It has given us adventure, friendship, challenge, laughter, perspective and countless unforgettable memories. It’s where we’ve watched swimmers achieve things they never thought possible, where confidence has grown, and where so many special moments have been shared.
We never take for granted the privilege of spending our days in and around the sea, sharing our passion with others and helping people discover what the ocean can offer.
Thank you to everyone who has joined us on that journey, whether you’ve swum with us once or hundreds of times. You’re all part of what makes this community so special.
The ocean gives us so much. Today we celebrate it, respect it, and promise to continue doing our bit to protect it for future generations.

A thought from yesterday morning’s swim... 🌊
As I was swimming, I found myself thinking about my goals when I first started open water swimming.
Back then, my goal was simple. I just wanted to be able to swim somewhere. Maybe out to the buoys. Maybe from Hele to Larkstone. I wasn’t thinking about pace, distance records or swimming faster. I just wanted to be able to do it.
Fast forward to today, and I’m doing all those things. In fact, I can probably swim as far as I want to go. I feel strong, confident and capable in the water.
But here’s the thing...
I still find myself wanting to be better.
Should I be swimming those routes faster? Should I be pushing harder? Why do I feel the need to improve my pace when I already achieve what I set out to do?
It made me wonder whether we ever truly arrive at our goals, or whether we simply move the goalposts.
So I’d love to know...
What is your goal when you swim in open water?
🌊 To be faster?
🌊 To be stronger?
🌊 To build stamina?
🌊 To feel more confident?
🌊 To swim further?
🌊 Or simply to enjoy being in the sea?
And perhaps the bigger question...

Our Introduction to Sea Swimming session is designed to help you build confidence, knowledge and experience in a safe, supportive environment.
Over 2 hours, we’ll cover:
✔️ Tides, waves, currents and weather
✔️ Sea safety and decision making
✔️ Local knowledge from experienced coaches
✔️ A guided sea swim to put your new skills into practice
Whether you’re completely new to the sea, feeling nervous about swimming alone, or simply want to understand the water better, this session is for you 💙
Expect encouragement, plenty of support, and a chance to discover just how rewarding sea swimming can be.
