Behind the scenes at Cholsey Farm Riding 🐴🌿

Meet Rupert! After having the summer off, he’s had 6 weeks of walking to gradually build his fitness back up, and he’s now ready to start some trot work.

What better place to do it than up the beautiful grass hills here at Cholsey Farm Riding? 💚

We believe that gradually building our horses’ fitness in this way is one of the best ways to prepare them for the hard work they’ll do throughout the winter — and, hopefully, help keep them happy, healthy and sound for their jobs. 🐎

It’s all about taking the time to get them fit properly. ❤️

Availability for September:
Camping. 17th to 27th September
Self catering. 8th and 9th September only

Twin bed self catering available or camping in tent, lorry or caravan. 18 different rides from 1 to 5 hours riding time all with maps, full directions and on the OS App - you can't get lost!!

Paddocks and stables for the horses. Fantastic riding, views, grass fields, woody tracks, quaint villages. Pubs on most routes to stop for lunch and a pub in village for evening meal.

Beautiful countryside, great company! It’s always lovely seeing riders and horses enjoying our Chilterns routes together — and today was no exception. ☀️🐎

What happens before our guests arrive for their day’s riding?

It’s an early start here at Cholsey Farm! 🌅🐴, while the farm is still waking up, we’re already out riding and getting the horses exercised - unless they are needed for guided rides later in the day.

It’s one of the best parts of the job — early mornings, fresh air, happy horses and beautiful Chilterns countryside to ride through. ❤️

And then it’s back to the farm, ready for our guests to arrive!

With 18 routes ranging from 1 to 5 hours, there’s quite a bit more to it than simply deciding where to ride! 🤠

In Part II of our Behind the Scenes series, we’re showing you how we:
📍 Map our routes onto the OS App
🗺️ Check every route and waypoint
✍️ Prepare the maps and detailed directions
🐴 Make sure the routes are easy to follow, with plenty of useful information along the way

We want you to be able to arrive with your horse, choose your ride and head off exploring with confidence — without worrying about getting lost!

Welcome to Cholsey Farm Riding. We’re really excited to be partnering with Harry Hall Riding to bring you a brand new behind-the-scenes series, giving you an insight into life here at the farm.

Over the coming months, we’ll take you beyond the riding holidays and guided rides to show you everything that goes into running Cholsey Farm Riding.

You’ll meet our horses, follow Hector the yearlings training and development, see how we prepare for our guests, explore some of our favourite riding routes, and share plenty of tips, stories and everyday moments from life with horses.

You’ll also see us and our horses putting Harry Hall clothing and equipment to the test in real-life conditions—whether we’re riding, working in the yard or training at home.
