❗️Friday Afternoon Team News ❗️

After last nights game was canned, let’s hope the weather holds out this weekend ☀️

Friday Night Team News

We are back in our normal prime time Friday night slot this week after some technical difficulties last week.

1s are on hot form as they travel to aiming to keep our 100% start to the season. Their 3s who have been on the wrong side of 2 close games, casting a slighter dimmer view than reality on their performances so far and with the Nevill not being a happy stomping ground for us over the years this will be a challenge! 2 changes this week as Reece 'Lightning' returns to the side for his first start of the season and Jack Rix comes in for his 1s debut!

2s are on the wrong side of a 100% record as we are without a win so far this season. After a difficult afternoon in Crawley the team will be looking to make amends against Gully Cricketers who have won every game so far this season. This will be a tough ask for us but with Dhanesh coming in for his 2s debut and the return of the Lewis "too big for a helmet" Shepherd hopes are high in camp we can finally get our season going.

3s travel to the artificial at Braypool to play . Also without a win this season we see this as an opportunity to turn that around on Saturday with our opponents having won and lost a games so far. Peter Mcgarr has decided to return after getting runs last week and Mike Standing has pulled himself off the sun lounger and brought his cousin along for a game, for the season highlight of a trip to Braypool. Nigel Gunn returns to add some fire power in the batting and Gary has just completed his cool down from a strong performance on Saturday and is medically declared as good to go!

Lets get 90 points and make the club social night a positive one!

Friday Team news.

Alex almost had a full compliment to pick from in the 1s this week for our second top of the table clash in 2 weeks ( alphabetical assistance provided) as we host . Ali is back we and hand a first appearance of the season to Aaron after a week of celebrating in North London. 🤦‍♂️. James will look to continue from where he left off after his 5-fer on Thursday.

A few changes for Captain Chris and the 2s as we travel to in search of our first win of the season. Mike is back to take the gloves, 2024 stalwart Sean returns after missing most of last season and we hand 2s debuts to Kieran and Brodie Felton.

The 3s host and welcome back Pete Mcgarr alongside Hannah and Richard. Also searching for our first win of the season, we will need to pull out a performance to get off the make tomorrow.

Go well to all our teams and dreaming of a 90 point Saturday.

Friday Night team news.

Week 2 sees just 2 games for our sides as the 3s have a rest week and thank goodness as half the population of Hurstpierpoint seem to be focussed on the cup final or have bagged a last minute holiday!

I've just had to change one letter for the 1s fixture this week ( a real luxury) as having beaten last week we travel to this week. This is a "top of the table" clash with both sides winning last week and alphabetical advantage coming into play. Last year's fixture saw Barcombe win via Duckworth Lewis despite some big hitting from the Hurst youth. 2 changes as Ali & Dhanesh come out and James comes in alongside Henry for his Hurst league debut. The team are up for this one and will be continuing their new warm up routine!

Our 2s lost out disappointingly to Smallfield last week and will be looking to rebuild this week against a strong Heathens side, who love a penalty more than Harry Kane, so will be grateful to be away from home and not have to submit the score on time. 👀A few changes for the 3s as Mike is replaced by Pike, Potter replaced by Pascoe, Jack by Jordi and Piers Arthur by Zach "half a" his age. This game will be live on Frogbox so tune in or get down to the ground and support the team.

Lets grab 60 points and properly get the season underway.

🏏 Friday Night Team News! 🏏

The wait is over - league cricket is BACK, and today we unveil our first three XIs for the opening Saturday of the season. A winter of preparation, optimism and anticipation now gives way to the real thing. New faces, returning favourites, and fresh opportunities… who knows what this season has in store? 👀

1st XI

The 1s begin their campaign against relegated , who comfortably came out on top the last time these sides met. Ironically, our home fixture was washed out - a result that ultimately helped seal Balcombe’s promotion.

Alex returns to lead the side for a second consecutive season, captaining a new-look (and slightly older!) XI featuring just one teenager. Jo takes the gloves after an impressive midweek showing behind the stumps, including 3 stumpings 👏 Arthur returns after a four-year league hiatus, while we’re delighted to hand 1st XI debuts to Ali Peacock and club debutant Dhanesh following his recent transfer. Plenty to be excited about in this side.

2nd XI

Chris Brant leads the 2s away at Smallfield Manor, hoping to repeat last season’s gritty victory - a game remembered for skittling the opposition cheaply and removing their run machine with the second ball of the innings 😮‍💨

After finishing 3rd last year, the 2s will be determined to mount another promotion push in Division 10. There’s plenty of experience returning too: Ross is back with a brand-new knee, fan-favourite Potter returns alongside his trusty partner-in-crime Umair, while Jack Rix earns a league debut after impressing in the Slam. Archie takes the gloves and Danger strengthens the bowling attack 💥

3rd XI

The 3s host local rivals Burgess Hill and hand Jordi a full league debut following his winter move from St Matthias. Rob returns from injury to take the gloves, while the club’s keenest cricketer George Chessun (sorry Oli 😅) returns for his second - season, lining up alongside his uncle to make it a real family affair.

And for anyone interested, Gary’s pre-match stretching session begins promptly at 10am… attendance optional 😂

90-point Saturdays were rare last year, but there’s a real buzz around the club heading into 2026.

The Slam is back for 2026!

We give slam and club debuts to Jack Rix and Henry Short and welcome Arthur Crouch back 4 years after his infamous slam final winning knock.

A few restrictions to contend with so the skipper will get the whiteboard out to work through the logistics. 🤦‍♂️.

Bar will be open so come on down, grab a drink for the night and your social membership for the season.

First ball 6pm!

A 'narrow' loss tonight meant we finished second in the Sunday league to Southern Sharks, who were not only a class team but great guys too. Well done to them on becoming well deserved champions.

It was a learning curve for Hurst's team, learning the new rules, tactics and format - even for those who are gnarled indoor veterans.
